Swimming

I just went to the Y and spent about 30 minutes in the pool doing laps and floating. Aside from being body sore (I haven't been swimming in almost 20 years) I came away with a headache, nauseated and lightheaded, although I felt pretty good while I was doing it. Anyone have luck in the pool? My therapist said it'd be good for my neck and back.

I can float around in the pool, but I have to wear a brace to support my neck. Otherwise, I feel the way you did, afterwards.

It bummed me out totally. I was so excited to do something new, I've been feeling pretty good this week, and I feel like crap afterwards. Honestly I probably shouldn't have driven home, given my light-headedness, but it's a very short drive. I'm sure part of it is that I shouldn't have done so much the first time. I'll know not to push myself next time.

My family is part fish. We had a pool for 10 years. I tried last year in Michigan to swim. I walked in up to my waist and vertigo set in badly. :(

I will try again this year as I love to swim.

I'm gonna try! Oh how I hope I can. To feel the water all around me again. :)

I have trouble in the shower but that's with the spray going by my head. I fell today. No head bump...just gonna have a nice bruise on my tush. :icon_neutral::icon_neutral::icon_neutral::icon_ne utral::Doh::Doh::Doh:

NNNNNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I just got my suit, cap and goggles in the mail... I was planning on going on tomorrow... I am still going to try but now am nervous... I really wanted this to be my "thing" again.. ( I was a swimmer for 15 years growing up) I am also trying yoga on Monday, I little nervous about that too with the vertigo...

I am so sorry Socks! Have you found any activity that you can do?

That was the first thing I tried (other than lying around doing nothing). I hope you have better luck than I did! I enjoyed myself while I swam, there was only one time I finished a lap and actually felt dizzy. It was just afterwards that was the problem. I'm thinking maybe I'll find a floaty of some sort and just chill in the pool at my apartment, if I can stand all the 12 year olds that are there as well.

I was told that if you have vertigo or have any inner ear issues, it's quite dangerous to swim! Something about the body losing it's sense of orientation in the water, especially if you try to dive into the water.

Having said that, I do go into the water but I keep my feet planted on the ground. I walk around and splash, but I don't close my eyes or anything.

It's still a lot of fun!

Headed to yoga tomorrow and the instructor is a former TBI and Stroke PT... She and I have already emailed back and forth about what she wants me to do as modifications...

tuesday is swimming... NERVOUS I have something going on with my ear... sounds like a tunnel when I talk on the phone..
