Had EMG

Had the EMG yesterday and got to see the neurologist while she did the test. She said neuropathy feet and legs most likely from diabetes. Borderline carpal tunnel and when I looked at my online records today I see it says Paresthesia
and hyperflexia . MRI next week of my neck and upper back. I'm doubtful that will show anything.
I wish I had asked her questions seems like I don't think of them till later. I'm wondering if my hands have a circulation problem going on. I don't get it the more I do the worse they get red and splotchy tight feeling.
I forgot to tell her I had cleaned a tile floor that had toilet bowl cleaner spilled on it. It didn't burn the outside of my fingers or hurt at the time and maybe this sounds out their but I wonder if it caused some internal damage to my fingers. I'm so frustrated trying to work like this. Having a bad day, feeling sorry for myself I guess. When I hear someone complain about some little temporary pain they are having, ( one that will go away) I just want to smack them. lol, Am I having a bad attitude or do others ever feel like this.

Hi, it is me again, Hopeless popping in with my 2 cents. When we are in a doctor's exam or treatment room and they start telling us "stuff", we are so busy trying to digest what they say that we don't have time to formulate our questions many times before they are out of the door, we are driving home, and then realize all the things we want to know. That is when we have all our questions but we are no longer in the presence of the doctor to ask them. By the time we are home, we are trying to review in our mind what they said and even more questions arise but we are nowhere near them.

One thing I have always disliked is seeing a doc, being sent for a test, and then getting a phone call with the results and no follow-up appt. Just a short conversation on the telephone. Where is the chance to ask your questions? They are off the phone and you wonder if you heard correctly.

One of the things I LOVE about my endocrinologist, once you are an established patient with him, he gives you pre-orders to have your blood work done 3 days PRIOR to your next appt. so that he can discuss the results with you at the appointment and he gives PLENTY of time for you to digest what he says, formulate your questions, ask them, and get answers. I NEVER leave an appt. with him with any un-answered questions that I think of later. He also never leaves the room until YOU are ready for him to leave. (The ONLY doctor I have ever seen that is like that.) They are usually the ones that decide when to leave the room, not the patient, but this doc is great about that. He never overbooks. He gives every patient as much time as they need and never gets backed up or delayed. He is ONE OF A KIND. He spaces his patient booking schedule with a lot of wiggle room so no one ever has to wait and no one ever gets the bums rush. I tell him all the time he needs to teach his colleagues how to run the perfect medical practice that he has established for himself. He probably does not have near the volume of other doctors but is in high demand. A lot of times he is not taking new patients because he does not want to compromise his style and the time he allows each and every patient.

As far as the feelings you are having, they are normal. I know that once in a while I throw myself what I call my little "pity party" for myself. Woe is me. But then I see all the people on NT that are in so much pain and suffering and many worse off than me and I snap right out of my party time. Thankfully the parties are few and far between but on bad days, you just have to have your own little party as a coping mechanism sometimes.

Sorry you are having such a hard time and especially during your busiest time of year. Wishing you the best. When you have the time, keep us posted on how you are doing.

How was the test for you? Was it better or worse than you expected?

Hope you did not have too much discomfort during the testing.

I was talking so much I really didn't notice much of it. It was the consultation and the test at the same time. Nothing hurt, so t was alright.

I think distraction is what helps play a big part of how much or little pain / discomfort a person feels during an EMG (and other tests). I also was chatting a way during my test and really had no issue with it at all, except for one short muscle cramp in the calf. If you go into it anxious and all tensed up, you're bound to feel more pain than if you're relaxed.

When I had the EMG/NCV testing I was not all tensed up or anxious. An exam was done just prior to taking the test. By that I mean all the other things they test for during an exam if they suspect CMT. It was uncomfortable toward the end. It is probably a bit different for some of us who have CMT. It also can depend on who is doing the test. There is medication you can take if it is too much for you. I learned that much later. Not certain that I would have taken any anyway.

As I posted before, a CMT expert told us we would not have to have that test again. It is for the benefit of the doctor/neurologist in our case. We know when we are progressing as CMT is progressive.
