I just dropped a bottle my foot!!!!

I'm okay, but I have a question as to what happend WHEN I DID THIS!!!!

I was emptying the recycle bin in my apartment, into a clear pastic bag. I inadvertently had my left foot underneath the bag.

Now we ALL HAVE DROPPED THINGS ON OUR FEET!!! I know I have. Years ago, I would drop a bottle, or something heavy would fall on my foot and I would go OW, and it would throb and either it would blow up and be a big bruise (yeah I did that when I was 14), or you forget about it because we ALL DROP STUFF, RIGHT.

Well, when the bottle landed on the to of my left foot (exact point was between the big toe and the one next to it but more below that point (on the top of my foot to be exact), WELL THAT WHOLE PART OF THE FOOT BUZZED. OF course it also hurt because I just dropped an empty Snapple bottle on it BUT THE BUZZING. I just stood there and said to Alan, "I think I hurt my foot, I dropped something on it and it's buzzing". Then the buzzing stopped.

What the heck did I do to the nerves in that area?? Did I shock them or something, did I wake something up or something? See, when you drop something hard on your feet, it hurts where you dropped it, then after a while, it goes away. But it doesn't buzz.

MY FOOT BUZZED. It was like plugging into a light socket for 10 or so seconds.

I have never experienced anything like that again. I ususally wear socks but I was coming out of the bathroom. But honestly, even if I had socks on, the bottle would have landed on the top of my foot and the end result would be the same.

I'm fine now, I'll probably put some ice or something, just to make sure.

Boy, these neuropathy symtoms, when they present themselves, it's like discoverying the new world or something. I never know what's going to happen.

I'm telling you, it was like being in the electric chair if they had an electric chair for the foot. Anybody understand what I am talking about????

Thanks, Melody

Hi Mel

Can't feel that anymore because of pn but sounds like you dropped
it on a nerve or nerves. You right about putting ice on it. Well
your still feeling. Sometimes i drop something and days later i wonder
were that swollen toe came from. Sorry :( Sue

Do you know anything about Vasculitis? When i was in the hospital,1 Dr.
said go to a Dermatologist that specializes in Vasculitis another said
be sure you see your Vascular Dr.,but i ,was all i could say before he left.
Don't have a Vasular Dr. The cute little girl in next bed yelled just
get us a PLAGUE Dr. I was hoping she would get a response but i guess
he was to busy to answer. :(

As you already know Mel, your nerves are damaged and they will act weird compared to non damaged nerves, thats all my friend :)
Your not wrong, it is a whole new world this PN stuff.

Well, I will tell you that I'M NOT GOING TO BE EMPTYING ANY MORE GLASS BOTTLES OVER MY FEET!!! That's for sure.

And Sue:
You said "The cute little girl in next bed yelled just
get us a PLAGUE Dr."

What on earth is a PLAGUE Dr.???

Mel...

The nerves on the tops of both of my feet are very sensitive, and will buzz even if I tap them. I cannot tie shoes tightly because of this. And this is why I rub the Biofreeze there instead of on the soles where my burning is sometimes.
And why I use the Lidoderms (if I am desperate) on the tops only of my feet.

darlindeb25 05-26-2007 08:25 PM

Yeah Mrs.D, my feet do that too. I can just rub lotion on them and when i touch a certain area, it feels like I have a vibrating cellphone in my foot. Sometimes now, the vibrating feeling goes up my shin bone too. I do still feel things when I drop them on my feet and I definitely feel things I step on. I guess some of us loose sensation and some get heightened sensations. To my thinking, probably feeling too much is better than not feeling.

We are all in the same boat:grouphug: just slightly different.

Some information for Mel

Hi Mel - I have done something similar to this a couple of times about a year ago and another time (just the other night) and at some point later I will get what I call an electric type twinge or zap every minute or so (sometimes less). I have to tell you that when this happens to me I am unable to sleep and there have been a few nights when I have been awake all night. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING takes this away. I have loaded up on magnesium, have soaked my foot in Epsom Salts, have taken more pain medication that I should have, have sat and massaged it - still every minute - zap!

What I have tried recently is putting cold on it and then putting the heating pad on it. Walking also seems to help, but you can only walk around your whole house so many times in the middle of the night. The minute I tried to lay down, back it came. After some hours (sometimes many) you can feel it lessening and at some point, IT IS GONE!!!

When it happened the other night, it was on the outside of my right heel. Very strange as I do not remember hitting it at all.

The first time this happened, the top of my foot got caught under the door. That was when I yelled for help in the middle of the night on the old board hoping someone else had ideas of what I could do. Most of the suggestions here came for all the good people on this board as I had no clue what to do and I was desperate.

I am hoping this does NOT happen to you, but wanted you to have this information just in case.

Here's to a PAIN-FREE night for you!

Also, Mel

I have also put the Lidoderm patches on it and rubbed the biofreeze on it and this does not work for me either.

I guess the best thing that does work is TIME! Time for that nerve to settle down after it has kept you awake all night.

Well, luckily, I have never had this keep me away all night (except for when the Podiatrist used that vibrating tool on me and that was over a month ago).

I take 5000 of the methyl b-12 every single morning when I wake up. That's on AN EMPTY STOMACH.

I just put ice on the top of my foot (I don't want it to get swollen). It's not buzzing or anything. When we had that cold spell about two weeks ago, my feet froze, and then they BURNED. Then I started the B-12 and they have not frozen or burned since. They just feel, YOU KNOW I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY HOW TO EXPLAIN HOW THEY FEEL???? They feel DOUGHY. Now if someone can explain DOUGHY to me, I'll say "THAT'S IT"

I can't think of another word to explain how my feet usually feel. I feel them. I can touch them. I do have feeling in my toes. But when I touch them, it's a weird kindo feeling. And when I rub my feet together, well, there's that DOUGHY feeling. Like Bread Dough. Makes no sense, I know.

It's like, I know now that there is something wrong with my feet, but they don't buzz, they don't freeze and they don't burn, so believe me, no complaints here. But good god, when that bottle hit the top of my foot, I thought I was in the electric chair.

I NOW KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO BANG YOUR FOOT AND GET ALL THE NERVES SENDING DIFFERENT SIGNALS.

The odd thing, is that the ice felt good on the top of my foot. Now if I did this two weeks ago, (when my feet were freezing), I might have thought I lost my mind.

I am very new to this neuropathy thing and I have to be EXTREMELY CAREFUL FROM NOW ON. Now I know why many people who have PN wear the shoes with the steel toe. That is a good idea.

Too bad I'm a girl who likes pink toenails and pretty sandals.

lol

Melody
