What will an MRI show at 6 months in?
So dr is finally ordering and MRI, what exactly can be found or seen during these? 6 months later seems a little bit late though doesnt it? Thanks.

Hi kevbo,
I don't think 6 months is too late, my accident was over a year ago and am only just going for a brain MRI. What kind of problems are you having? An in depth MRI can show all kinds of things, can see the blood vessels etc. I'm told it can also show scarring and aneurysms. I'm having one showing the Circle of Willis too. I'm having seizure like activity but told you can't see that on the MRI. |
Thanks. Im assuming for my seizure like activity as well. Because tgat was the topic of my appt, that and not feeling much better. Just said hey im ordering an mri and that was really it.

An MRI is often used to rule out rare but serious issues. They can sometimes find evidence of prior injury. An MRI/MRA can image vascular structures.
Sometimes, the MRI is just a fishing expedition. Fortunately, they are safe, no radiation like a CT Scan. A functional MRI (fMRI) can be good at showing if the brain is getting blood flow to support different areas of the brain. They are usually used in research. A diffusion tensored image MRI can be a good image. |
Thank you Mark, as far as I know its a regular mri

I also had mine at 6 months. Mine showed nothing. I believe they said it was "unremarkable".

A negative or unremarkable MRI does not mean you do not have an injury. It just rules out some concerns. If your doctor thinks it means more, he is mistaken. Some neuros have a hard time accepting an injury that they can not image.

Also, he asked if i have had a fever or been sick, both of which I have not in a long long time, well over a year. Then he said they sounded like seizures, noticed my ear was irritated a lot and ordered an mri. So I just dont know what his thought process is because he refuses to explain and shuffles me out the door so quickly. |
