imetrex, anyone have luck?
 

So Dr prescribed me imetrex, its a 9 pill course thats supposed to last you a month. I think hes experimenting if the bad headaches could possibly be causing the seizures. Or at least thats the though process.

Anyone take this or have any luck with it? Ive taken it twice so far, both times it made me feel high. Lightheaded, very pukey, achey, and worst of all, facial numbness. It didnt really do much for the headaches, maybe helped a little, but not much.

I do have a history of hypertension (with medicine I average 160/110) the pharmacist says not to take it if you have hypertension, but the dr seems ok with it.

Anyways, are those the normal feelings you get on this medicine? If after taking it twice, and it doesnt do much for the headaches, should I contact the dr, or wait it out and see if it helps after taking it a few more times. Thanks!

I suggest you at least keep track of your blood pressure. The imetrex sounds like a shot in the dark. It is a vaso constrictor so it can work against BP meds.

I was talking to my neuro the other day and she is done prescribing me "migraine" meds... her reasoning was this is not a migraine and therefore migraine meds will not work on the headache pain I have...

So my thought is ... what you have is not a migraine.. therefore migraine meds will not work...

I took imitrex with the same reasoning, to see if my headaches would respond to migraine medications. Mine did.

Unfortunately, apparently imitrex causes rebound headaches, and soon the nine pills per month was not enough for me.

I don't recommend getting hooked on it if you can avoid it.

Years ago I took Midrin for my migraines. Did not realize what was happening at the time; but the headache would go away for a few hours and then back; I began taking additional Midrin. Finally realized I was dealing with "rebound" headache.

When Imitrex came on the market, I was very careful not to overdo. The Imitrex has been a "Godsend" for me. I don't wait until the migraine gets out of control before taking the Imitrex. Usually 25 mg's will be sufficient. Rarely need a second. I learned the hard way; but will not allow "rebound" to be an issue with Imitrex.

FYI; I have my doctor prescribe 50mg. tablets of Imitrex (they cost the same as the 25mg's); then cut them in half ending up with a total of 18 25mg's of Imitrex.

Thanks for the responses. The few times I took the med it really didnt touch my headaches so I dont know what the dr next move is. Still waiting to hear back.
