Direct Deposit Didn't Clear!
 
For the first time in 5 years of getting my disability check directly deposited into my bank account, this last Thursday it didn't. I called the 800 number for SSA and they told me it was issued. They called my bank with me on the phone and my bank rep told them they never received it. The SSA lady told me they would do a reissue, and it should appear by the next day. That was Thursday, like I said. This is Saturday, and I've still received nothing. Due to the Fourth of July Weekend, I've been unable to reach SSA. I live in Poland, and getting direct deposit is the only way I can get my disability money, as the SSA will not send checks to this country. Has anyone EVER heard of a direct deposit not going through? Getting worried and desperate, here.

Have you opened a My Social Security account at www.socialsecurity.gov? You should so no one else will do it fraudulently.

When you spoke to the rep, did they double check the routing number and account number of the original check? There are cases involving auto direct deposit changes. It is a growing problem.

You will have to wait until Monday to get a more official answer.

Thanks for the response. Apparently, I can't register an account from overseas, everything has to be done via mail/phone with the consulate or the home office, directly. This scam (?) involving auto direct deposit changes sounds pretty alarming. It's a little frustrating having to deal with this from a foreign country, since my hands are tied when it comes to respond to things quickly and efficiently. Thanks again.

I did, thanks! On Monday when it still wasn't there, they (SSA) told me they had to do a trace on the money, and it would take a week to figure it out. I was livid, but later that day it magically appeared in my account. Some weird glitch, I guess.
