Where is the best place to buy Lyrica 50mg if you have to pay for it yourself?

Hello everyone!

I have used Lyrica 50mg for a long time and traditionally had it covered by my insurance. Since my switch to Humana under health reform they are refusing to cover it, and I will have to start paying for it out of pocket.

I take 50mg per day, and wanted to see if anyone knew who had the lowest retail price in the United States? Unfortunately, I cannot buy it from Canada as it is a controlled substance.

Many thanks!

David

Costco typically has the lowest retail prices in the US.
You don't have to be a member to use their pharmacy.

But you should get a prior authorization from your doctor and submit to the insurance company...often they will approve things on a case by case basis this way. No guarantees, but usually this works. Your doctor's office would do this, and fax the pertinent information to them. Contact your insurance and see if they offer this function.

Canada is cheap

Glad you're taken care of, Apollo, but I'll add my two cents for anyone else interested --

Call around. Pharmacies will give you a quote over the phone. Yes, often Costco is cheap, but it's not always the cheapest. It can be worth re-calling every few months since prices change.

And in my area, the citibank atm at 7-eleven prints out a prescription discount card at the bottom of the receipt. I haven't used it, but a friend and I used it to look up Gabapentin prices and he found a cheaper place to buy his medication. No guarantees, but it could be worth a look-see. (Bonus for me is that those atms are free for credit unions in my area.)

You can also try contacting the manufacturer to see if they have any discount programs you qualify for.

Apollo,
Are you under an Employer's health insurance, or are you in a position where you can change insurance during open enrollment in the fall?

I have United Health Care Rx insurance, they have a very good coverage for Lyrica and I pay only $ 40.00 copay for a 30 days supply.
Retail price for the same amount of pills would be a $ 1,010.00 !!!

Pfizer just had a court extend the patent on Lyrica here in the US...(this is just TYPICAL of Big Pharma)

It was due to expire soon.

I have insurance and my co pay is $60 a month for Lyrica. I called the people who make Lyrica who gave me Co pay savings card so my payment would be no more than $25.00 I have not used it yet as I just got it but all the major pharmacies are supposed to accept it. I also got one for my Nucynta which is also $60 a month.

You can try calling them and see if they have anything for people who have insurance that wont cover it.

Figures! I'm beginning to really hate pharmaceutical companies. However, I do realize they are a necessary evil. I'm trying as hard as I can not to take too many drugs. Not always easy. I don't trust that what they say in the research of these drugs is true ever since my experience of withdrawing from Cymbalta.

... thanks all!
