got areply from brain injury assocation of america
wrote an email asking if they could list doctors who treat brain injury and places where there are advanced imaging techniques and this was his reply:
Mark - thank you for reaching out. I will e-mail you with a more detailed answer/reply to your questions. The short answer about listing docs is we have the same challenge I think others do - how do you find them? There is no specialty in neurology for brain injury or concussions so it makes it challenging to know what a neurologist knows. Many of the people I talk with all over the country express disappointment in neurologists - you would think they would be the natural place to get treatment for a brain injury, but we find that many of them don't know about more recent advances in our understanding of brain injury (I can't tell you how many times we hear about a neurologist saying "you did not lose consciousness therefore you did not sustain a brain injury"). We are constantly working to educate professionals about brain injury, but of course it's a challenge. I will respond to your other questions via e-mail if that's ok. basically the same stuff I learned on this board from mark in Idaho and others. I guess i'll see if his next email contains useful stuff. I was shocked he responded at all lol |
