Klonopin Manufacturing Stoppage
 

I've been a user of brand-name Klonopin for 28 years now, for Peripheral Neuropathy, (off label use), and am very concerned about the ceasing of brand-name production.

I called Roche-Genentech, and was told "maybe production would resume this coming October".

I'm very worried they are removing it from the market, (as they did with Valium), due to all the lousy generics available, which don't work the same for me, and cause me to go into horrendous withdrawal.

I only take 3 to 4 halves of a 1/2 mg. tablet daily, i.e., 3/4 mg. to 1 mg. daily, but when I tried to cut back to 1/2 mg. daily of brand-name Klonopin, went into spasmatic withdrawal.

Can anyone recommend a generic that has worked as well as the brand-name Klonopin? In checking the forums on Klonopin shortages, the skinny on Clonazepam generics has been simply awful in comparison to the brand-name Klonopin!

You would think companies like Roche-Genentech would show some compassion for users of their brand name drug because of the withdrawal they will almost certainly experience via switching to a generic version that doesn't work as well, but as always, it's only the bottom line in dollars these large companies care about! Very sad indeed...:icon_cry:

I sure hope this isn't the case. I've been taking the same low dose as you have for about 20 years. Recently I tried the generic with the M on it and after about a week I was in full withdrawal. I have a couple of weeks worth left but the pharmacy told me it is on back order with no date of when it will be manufactured again. Lately I've been in so much pain and the thought of going through weeks of Hell just seems like more than I can handle right now.

If you research the generics, it looks like Teva is a bit better, but I know my pharmacy doesn't carry it.

what are the benefits of klonopin? what does it do for pain, burning, numbness, weakness? I ask because I have been prescribed doxepin by a new neuro. i have not started it yet and wonder if klonopin might work better for PN.

I have always taken generic klonopin. My gyn dr initially gave it to me for sleep some 6-7 yrs ago. For some reason, this practice tends to give this to woman but don't tell them it can be addictive. I have used it on and off for sleep especially when I have pain. Never go cold turkey once you take this regularly as you have to wean off. Any way, if I take .5 I sleep. Last nite, I took 1/2 tablet and was up till 2 am. After all the yrs, of taking it .5 still puts me under pretty good. It can fatigue you in the am. I usually have blurry vision when I wake up.

Walgreens carries the Teva brand of a cancer drug I use. Call different chains and ask.

Lida Rose... what kind of withdraw were you having? I just re-read this post and you said you were having spastic withdraw??

Now 3 weeks into October 2014
 

Still no word on the status of Klonopin.
