SCS electric jolts, Urban Legend?
 

Boston Scientific SCS implant 6/24/2014

After searching the net I found only two posts from people who said they gets electric jolts when lightening is near. One also claimed she received jolts when going through walk-through scanner at Walmart (but she also claimed her taste buds and vision changed for awhile). One other stated getting electric jolts while using a computer.
I live in an area where lightening storms are frequent with bolts striking in the back yard, twice having direct hits to the house. Has anyone out there ever received an electrical jolt for any reason after SCS implant?
Should those with implants turn the SCS off during electrical storms?

I keep the SCS on most of the time and have yet to set off a store alarm. I am not testing the therory, I just forget to turn it off. Has anyone set off an alarm?

Hi there, I've not set off any alarms and the other week I totally forgot to turn my SCS off before going to the airport. I breezed through security checks including wanding, caught the flight home, unpacked and went to bed and woke up 3 hours later thinking oops, how could I forget such a thing!!

That's good to hear Ladies. Have wondered about the effect of store security etc. Have only been to a shopping centre with that type of security a couple of times and nothing happened. Even used the remote to check that nothing had been turned off. Have followed Wingy's lead and got myself a manbag for carting the remote and a few other nicknacks around. I guess as time goes on we will get less paranoid about our units. :D:D:D

Never set off a store alarm or had any jolts so far, come to think of it I have never turned it off since it was implanted, oh I tell a lie, I accidentally turned it off one night from the charger and awoke in pain in the middle of the night but was to thick to check the remote till the morning... Doh!

Yep a man bag is the way to go chaps, or maybe I just want everyone else to look as camp as me :-)

OK the time has come to reveal man bag contents: remote, charger & belt sometimes, Swiss Army knife, small torch, iPad mini, iPhone, wallet, keys, pen, pain killers, two dog biscuits and a fluffy boiled sweet... dunno, looks like it used to be a sherbet lemon.

Mims, no I've not been zapped or set off any alarms.
I do recall my first airport experience after getting my unit...
Tight security....I'm nervous as a flea on a shaved dog, As I'm getting closer and closer to the security line my heart pounds harder and harder.....Can't hardly breathe cuz 'what if I set off alarms and they take me to the room full of very important looking people in blue suits', interrogations, accusing looks, oh my LORD what if they think I have a bomb!!!
By the time it's my turn to walk thru the metal scanner I look straight at the lady in charge and BLURT OUT with trembling lips as tho I'm confessing a horrible crime...

She just smiled and told me to walk on thru. No alarms, nothing.
I felt like an idiot. Found my seat on the plane, took a Xanax and all was fine.
......shoulda took the Xanax BEFORE setting foot in the airport. :rolleyes:

Oh, I love this story; you and Wingy are the Garrison Keillors of SCS.
Yesterday I went into Bank of America with my unit on, completed a long transaction then left. As I left I noted the pistol-bearing guard at the door. That was when I realized my unit was on. Oh no, I just knew he was going to stop me but he did not even look my way.Phew!
By the way, I have named my SCS "Thumper" after the rabbit in Bambi.

Hi Wingy, The scary part is how similar the contents of our manbags are. :D Just change the phone & mini-tablet to android equivalent, then throw in some reading glasses. And I was worried I was carrying too much, seems I might be a bit light on. :)
