Double head bump

Last Saturday I had some friends over and we drank too much. As embarrassing as this is, I was stumbling my way over to the patio door to go into the house and face planted on the concrete before I got there. I tried to get up then before I could do so I fell backwards and hit the back of my head.

Since then I'm still experiencing dizziness (mostly if I lean forward.) After doing some reading I've been laying down and resting (without TV or other external stimulation) trying to recover. I work from home, so I can currently do a very minimal amount of work and rest most of the day. I have also avoided any alcohol since this happened.

I just now called my GP and was told they don't have equipment to scan and I would have to go to the emergency room to get this checked out.

This happened Saturday night and it is now Tuesday - and on Friday I am supposed to drive about 200 miles to pick up my kiddo from her summer vacation.

Any feedback is appreciated.

yogicat,

Welcome to NeuroTalk.

You are doing the right thing to recover. You are very early and likely will recover with just some rest. The driving issue is a iffy one. If you are experiencing dizziness, I suggest you find another way to get her home.

My best to you.

Agreed with Mark. Keep resting and I personally wouldnt drive. You could potentially be risking harming yourself, your daughter, and others.

I almost forgot to ask. I've been doing yoga for about five years. I realize that physical activity should be avoided, but has anyone had any experience with very light, slow vinyasa yoga and/or meditation in this type of case?

I suggest you avoid any head below heart positions and avoid extreme neck positions.

Are head below the heart positions necessarily bad? I've been thinking a short time in a position like that might enhance blood flow and be good, they don't seem to exacerbate headaches much beyond what one might generally experience after standing up too quickly.

Laupala,

You are months since your injury and will likely tolerate head below heart much easier. She is still in her first week. For her, at this time it is not worth the risk of delaying her recovery or triggering more symptoms.

Once again, thank you for your input. That is along the lines of what I was thinking. More of a very beginner type stretch (especially since head below heart is where the dizziness comes from.)

I guess more along the lines of warrior pose, plank, mountain pose and other light stretches. I've been in Savasana (flat on my back) for most of the last few days anyway. I definitely can't see doing any shoulder stands or plow poses for quite awhile. :(
