CRPS and Tattoos?
 

Hi all,

Anyone have any info on if one gets their CRPS in remission is it safe to get a new tattoo?

Could this bring CRPS out of remission? I would imagine while having a flare up getting a tattoo would not be a good idea.

I designed a tattoo that means the world to me, and would like to find out if I will be able to have it done at some point in time. If not, then I need to take that design and do something else with it that will be with me forever.

Hi Terri! Welcome to NT.

If it were me, I would not do it. Anything could bring your CRPS out of remission and I wouldn't push it...but that is me. It just depends on how much you really want this. And there is no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to RSD/CRPS, especially when it is all new to you!

Thanks for the link, I read it and still am on the fence! I already have 3 tattoos so I understand the risks involved in getting tats in general, but now I have to add in CRPS...of course I was think in the future if it goes into remission.

I tattoo is a big no no for us, I really want to get one but my pain management de mentions is a high risk to rsd spreading so ,no,so far I know is a no.

Not a dumb question. I would say to not take the chance. I know that can't be easy to hear, so I am sorry. The way I look at it, if you did get the tattoo and it brought your rsd out of remission, it could come back even worse than before.
I hope you are able to use the design and if you do choose to take the risk, I hope it goes smoothly.

Hi Terri - Welcome! No question is dumb. We are here to share, learn and support each other. For me, if I achieved remission I wouldn't do ANYTHING that I even suspected could bring it back. I can hear that this new design is very important to you. My wish for you is that you can find a safer way to express it ( I don't know, maybe have a custom pendant made?). Just my thoughts. ~Lottie

I have 7 tattoos. All were pre RSD. I have plans to get several more... just haven't had the money to do it. I think the decision is personal if people want to take the risk or not.

I'm not in remission. If I was it may be something I'd think over more.

Suggestions have been wonderful. This has been a difficult subject for me since my CRPS is new and my next tattoo means so much to me.

I have some time to decide still...I'm on a blood thinner medication for a blood clot in my leg, should be on this medication until about Oct. That should give me time to look into good jewelery makers in my area to see about having my design made into earrings just in case my CRPS doesn't go into remission.

The tattoo design means the world to me and I want to have a reminder with me always. Besides a tattoo and jewelry...any other suggestions?:confused:
