PCS or something worse?

I am concerned that I have a degenerative nerve disease in addition to having PCS.

I have been steadily deteriorating since the last week in May. I was able to walk 80 steps a day until a few days ago, when I became unable to walk even the 10 steps to the bathroom without my constant headache getting much worse. Now my headache is staying at a level where I cannot walk even a few steps or talk or listen more than a sentence. My sound sensitivity has gone through the roof.

Has anyone else read about or heard about a condition that may develop that would cause these severe symptoms?

My headache specialist has curtly dismissed my treatment options by saying my headache is psychosomatic and I should see a psychiatrist or psychologist. Being unable to talk more than a sentence or two limits these options for me too.

I feel more entrapped than ever. Looking for any answer that will get me out of it.

Thanks, Joe

I have to tell you that my headaches were so bad after my third injury I didn't think I could survive. I could barely get out of bed for a year. It didn't seem possible they could ever get better but they did. Even though you have had multiple concussions, the next year or so could see great improvement as long as you don't injure your head again. Your injuries aren't that old that you couldn't keep seeing improvement after the worst of it comes to pass.

Second, your doctor is an idiot. I know my symptoms are real because they were not there the day before the brain injury and they were there soon after. Keep searching for a good doctor or go to a good clinic and don't stop until you get a good one.

I recently went against primary's assertion that tremors and burning were in my head and saw a new neuro. He doubled my Neurontin and greatly alleviated the pain. So you must keep searching.

Regarding degenerative disease, do not panic. I too have worried about the long term impact of brain injury on degenerative disease many years later, The verdict is out on that and I have decided to stop worrying about something I can do nothing about for now. However, the odds of you having acquired a degenerative disease several years after injury are very very low.

There are some very helpful people on this board who will answer your questions in the coming hours and they are very smart and helpful. Welcome to the board and look at the vitamin thread if you get a chance or have someone look for you if you can't.

Have you been examined by a physiatrist (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) ?
