"MagMind"

Anyone try this supplement before? It's made by Jarrow Formulas.
Apparently it has a type of magnesium (Magnesium L-Threonate) that "is the only form of magnesium that has been shown, by promising research, to readily cross the blood-brain barrier and provide significant positive effects on cognition, memory, and brain health." ??? I started taking it yesterday. I am desperate for results. Getting frustrated. Also started a fish oil with higher levels of DHA (900 mg).

I tried some MagMind as a product tester for Amazon. I did not notice a difference.

JuliaB,

What symptoms are you struggling with ?
How long has it been since your injury ?
What lifestyle changes have you made to help with recovery ?

What other supplements are you taking ?

Thanks for responding, Mark. Since June 25th I been experiencing symptoms. It will be 8 weeks on Wednesday. It was a re-injury, at a hair salon. I had a concussion in 1997 on the same part of my head. I know my accident is freakish and hard to understand (believe me, I never would have consented to a pressure massage of my head if I had dreamed these symptoms would result). My main symptoms are daily tension headache (travels all around my head), feeling slowed down/weighted down, feeling of unsteadiness/dizziness, cognitive fatigue/overwhelmed feeling, noise sensitivity. Also sometimes searching for the right word in conversations.

To help with recovery I have moved in with my mother (traffic noise at my apartment is too loud). I have also reduced my hours at work, altho this is misleading because work actually STARTS this coming week (i am a teacher). I am hopeful that I'll be able to manage, working just mornings 7:30-12:30. It may be too much, which is causing me distress just thinking about it.

I am getting good sleep, nutritional diet and daily walking like never before (the exercise helps a lot), and taking the following daily meds/supplements:
B12 mcg 1000
omega 3 "DHA xtra" 900 mg (total omega 3 dose is 1160mg)
MagMind (3 capsules daily)
Rainbow Light Womens Multi-vitamin (i think is a good source of other B vitamins)
cell salts (periodically)
paxil 20 mg
tylenol 500-1000mg for headache, mainly at night

I was wondering about adding curcumin, altho I have some history of heart arrhythmia and was concerned about this being contraindicated. I need to get a good primary doc. Seeing a neurologist on the 28th (same lady I saw in 1997, she was good).

The Rainbow Light should be labeled a light dose of vitamins. Only the folic acid is close to a decent dose. The D3 and B-12 are not even close. I doubt the other B's are any better.

Is your B-12 methylcobalamin ? It should be and you can up the dose 2x.

What is a pressure massage of the head ? How is it done ?

What did the neuro do for you in 1997 ?

Julia,
Just a question aside from the MagMind and other supplements...

Did any of these symptoms coincide with your starting Paxil?

The closest thing i could find to describe it online was an 'indian pressure massage,' which i think is an aruveydic (sp?) thing. I don't know if this is the correct term or not. She wasn't a massage therapist. She placed both her thumbs on the top of my head (i was in the shampoo chair), and pressed down HARD. She pressed about six times on my old injury over 5 minutes, the rest of the time she was massaging other parts of my head and doing the shampoo. The pressure she was doing felt uncomfortable, but not painful per se. That night I was feeling ok, but had pain at the site. Over the next several days the pressure in my head (left hemisphere) built and I was nauseated for at least a week. Also fatigue during the day, insomnia, feeling heavy headed, unsteady. Went to urgent care after one week (i couldn't believe the massage had actually done anything, but the symptoms don't lie). It was a total freak thing.

I have been on a 10mg paxil regimen for several years.
Two weeks ago I increased to 20mg due to intense anxiety over my injury.
I am a bit concerned that MagMind and Paxil together might be a bad idea…will check with my doctor.

Look at the drug interaction sticky above. There is one that includes supplements.

Did your hair stylist do the pressure massage ? What was she hoping to accomplish with it ?

Pressing on your old injury site sounds like an attempt to practice medicine. Questionable to me.

I would at the minimum, file a complaint with the State Board of Cosmetology or whatever board oversees her profession. If this injury impacts your ability to work, I would consider consulting an attorney. Hopefully, she carries liability insurance.
