My friend cannot access this website!!!
Okay, here's the problem.
My friend has MSN web tv. It's old. but it works. She sells Discovery toys out of her home. She made up a brochure and she emailed it to me. It has a hyperlink. When I click on the hyperlink, it takes me to her website www. So that's not the problem. I was just over a her place and she says: "Melody, people can't access my website, if they type in the URL, it says No Page Found". So I went on MY computer, I typed in www. and it worked fine. I went to her place, typed it on her webtv thing and it said 'can't find website' or some message like that. Same with her friends and their computers. If she sends it as a hyperlink, it works fine. But if they try and type it in the URL place, they get a message "no website found'. NOW HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN?? Why would a hyperlink work, but IF YOU MANUALLY TYPE IT IN, IT WON'T WORK. VERY PUZZLING And how come I can type in the web address and it works fine, but when she and her friends (and they have regular computers just like I do), when THEY do it, it doesn't work????? I mean, an address is an address, right?? Help please. Thanks, Melody |
Melody,
On her machine, try typing the full address as: -- if this works, and -- does not work, it might indicate that the settings in the computer registry are different. Barb |
hi,
we did indeed do BOTH OF THOSE THINGS. Tried with the http and without it. kept getting NO Website Found. But I typed in yahoo.com, google, com and other stuff and it came up just fine. I just don't get this!!! Melody P.S. Were you able to get in??? |
Mel,
Could be one of a few things, 1- Internet Browser, if she has Internet exployer, try downloading and installing Firefox or something else, then see if it works using a differant Browser, 2- i would run all anti / spyware programs too, 3- could be her firewall too, just turn off and try. Brian :) |
Maybe they need to clear the cookies and the cache in their browsers?
If they are typing it in themselves even a space or anything in the wrong place could make it not work. All of the links worked for me. If friends have anti spyware, anti virus or such programs maybe that is blocking the site for some reason? |
She can't download anything. This is the OLD webtv with MSN.
She doesn't even have a mouse. She uses a wireless keyboard. I can't tell you what it was like sitting in front of her tv (it works via the tv set) and WAITING for everything to boot up. Drove me nuts. She can't buy a computer because she has epilepsy and her neuro told her if she sits in front of a computer, the flashing lights of the computer monitor might give her a seizure. Serious stuff, we're talking about. Thanks guys. Now I can tell her that you were able to access the website. Melody |
I think there are TV video cards - I saw them when I was upgrading my system- or computers with TV connections available already installed.
so it is possible to have a computer and use a tv instead of a monitor. you just have to have the plug ins for TV and the right cables for the connection. info about that- this is a gateway site but will apply to any PC with the available connectors http://support.gateway.com/support/m...7474/07474.htm although some websites she goes to may still have flashing graphics. but I think those can be disabled. |
Hi. I never thought of such a thing. Using a computer with a tv set.
Theirs is an old tv set. Don't think a new computer would be compatible. And they really have no money to buy a computer anyway. I think she finally got it to work. She pressed a go button (or some such thing). I hate the webtv. When you have used a normal computer. And then you sit in front of a tv set with this little keyboard and you have to press the arrows to get the cursor thing to move around and EVERYTHING TAKES 5 MINUTES TO LOAD ANYTHING UP!! Well, I almost went nuts. So I thank all of you from the bottom of my computer loving little heart. bye for now. Melody |
