New research TBI Alzheimers

I apologize, I'm a newbie and learning how to negotiate this site. Yesterday, I posted concerns about a new study linking TBI to Alzheimers published in the December online Neurology journal. If you would like, you may google the Web MD article entitled, Concussions Linked to Alzheimer's Risk in Study – WebMD. Dr. Mielke is considered one of the experts in the study of Alzheimers.

I wonder if any of you experts about TBI would care to comment on this new study. While TBI is not a cause and effect relationship, it raises some concerns.

seems to me after reading the article that the link between Alzheimer's and concussion, if any, is negligible and the results conflicting. Good news is that clinical studies have shown curcumin fights the buildup of the dangerous amyloid plaques and taking it after head injury might even out the playing field and then some.

look up Alzheimer's and curcumin and you will find loads of studies.

Plus i have enough trouble battling my current symptoms to be too concerned about alzheimers now :) i take my curcumin and expect science to improve dramatically regarding the disease by the time you and me need to worry,

The increased risk of developing Alzheimer's Disease after TBI has been know for a long time. A problem with this concept is simple. Since the age related decline due to TBI is very similar to the decline due to AD, could there be an overlap where subjects with a TBI history decline due to their TBI history and not due to AD ? It is very difficult to precisely diagnose AD except at autopsy.

My father die from dementia. The simple diagnosis was AD. The progression was not the same as a normal AD progression. I believe he died from ischemic dementia due to his 40 year battle with Central Sleep Apnea. The doctors used the easy diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease.

Until more is know about the causes of AD, we will just have to do what we can to maintain good brain nutrition and stimulation.
