Exercise: Letter from Future You

Since weekly group chat is a dud, I thought we could do this.

I had a really great experience writing this and encourage people to do it and share with the community.

Dear myself,

I know how you are feeling, how frustrated, hopeless, anxious, exhausted, and scared you are at times. I know you worry at times that you would not be able to pursue your dreams and have to settle. I know that this thought of settling paralyzes you with despair. Know that like all things this too shall pass. This experience is making you stronger, more resilient, more passionate, kinder, more humble and ultimately a better human being. Without this experience, you would have lived in a bubble. You would not have been able to feel compassion for the less privileged, less fortunate. You learned that life is ever interconnected and interdependant, and that our lives are not our own. You had to experience what you are experiencing right now to become the person that you had always hoped to become. Do not fear. I got your back. You will be okay. Do not give up. One day you will look back on this and will be so glad that you stuck it out. Good things are on their way. When you feel alone, know that I am here knowing what you are going through. I love you unconditionally and care about you very much.

I am gonna have fun with this today.

Dear Self,

I am writing this to let you know that you will be more than okay. Right now, I just came out of my absolute favorite class. I am finally zeroing in on my dissertation thesis. Just thinking about it makes me excited. I am sitting on the patio of a local coffee shop waiting for my significant other that I am absolutely in love with. Oh I have finally made it to California and I am loving the weather here. I am the healthiest I have been in my life. I do not feel exhausted like I used to. I am full of energy and enthusiastic about what is ahead of me. My brain is working amazingly. I have never experienced my brain working this wonderfully. My memory and concentration levels are off the charts! I think the concussion changed the wiring of the brain for the better. I feel amazing. I have never felt this content and satisfied with my life. I have no pain in my body. The spine has healed completely. I exercise and meditate almost everyday and I have the energy and motivation for them. I told you good things are coming!

....and believe it or not, they found new treatments for those who had major head and spine issues for years and they are doing very well now, and they appreciate their loved ones more and life more...
