Siblings with CRPS

I am interested in seeing how many families there are out there that have 2 or more family members diagnosed with CRPS. I have a brother diagnosed a decade ago with CRPS and last year I was diagnosed with it myself. We both had injuries on the right leg (foot, ankle, toes) and both have CRPS on that limb on that side of our body. There are many symptoms that are the same and just as many that are different. I cannot help but wonder that families affected by multiple cases of CRPS would be a great place to do research. I was wondering if anyone knows of any studies done on this subject? Also I would love to hear of any other families that are struggling with this in multiple family members.

Welcome to the group. There is an ongoing debate and a lot more research that needs to be done in order to determine whether or not this disease has a genetic component. Hate to say it, but I think the answer is, we really don't know yet. I did find a study by Dr. Hooshmand (a well known CRPS/RSD physician/researcher) and according to his study, he believes that RSD can NOT be inherited. Here is a link to his study:

Hope this helps! I am sorry to hear about you and your brother. It does seem strange that you both have it in the same limbs. Good luck and I wish you the best!

This is an interesting topic. So sorry you and your brother are challengd by CRPS. Coincidence? Genetic pre-disposition? This disease presents lots of good material for medical researchers.
