RLS and Mirapex
 

So my neuro finally prescribed something for my RLS. Mirapex (it's the generic and I cannot remember the name).

I take a .5 mg tablet about an hour before bed. He said the Baclofen is not made to help RLS.

I took my first one yesterday evening. I took it about 2 hours before bed because if I was going to have an adverse reaction to it I wanted to at least be up. :rolleyes:

It worked for the RLS but it made me weak and wobbly. Much more so than the Baclofen does.

My legs felt like they weighed 200# each and it was hard to lift them. So I shuffled around.

Does anyone else here take meds for RLS? Do you have similar side effects?

I'm wondering if the side effects gets less the longer I take it. I'm feeling better now 12 hours later. I'll take it again because not having to deal with restless legs is wonderful.

The generic name is ropinerole. I did take it for years, but it didn't work effectively so my neuro has put me on a patch. the smallest dose didn't work well enough so he has doubled it.

I never got weak or wobbly from it. I think one of the reasons they tell you to take it an hour before bed is twofold: 1)it will be most effective when you sleep; 2)if it does make you wobbly or weak, you're in bed so it won't affect your awake time functioning.

I just looked on the bottle and what I have is called Pramipexole. 0.5 mg.

I'm going to take it again tonight because it totally took away my RLS symptoms. Now that I know what it does to me it won't be so strange to have noodle legs in the morning.

I'm still taking my Baclofen for spasticity but only once or twice during the day as needed. I think I remember reading that if you stop taking Baclofen abruptly it can cause seizures.

Hi Kitty. By coincidence I started Synthroid for low thyroid level. The RLS I had had for several years disappeared within a week. Doc never heard of that! But it obviously helped. My RLS was caused by low thyroid level.
