Is it a good idea to start light resistance training ?

Is it a good idea to start lifting light weights with PCS ? I am 6 months into PCS and thinking to start light resistant exercises and see how my body reacts and take it from there. How has been your experience with resistance training ?

I'm not really sure. My doctor told me not to lift heavy stuff, even groceries, but I can't remember why. It's possible that it had nothing to do with my brain and may have been related to my neck pain instead.

My PT started me on doing some light training (5 or 3 lbs weights I think) on an exercise ball, sort of doing bench press type motions, and then flipping around on my chest and pulling up, working the traps. 3-5x 10-15 reps. Not sure if it's helped, but it certainly hasn't hurt and I feel good doing it!

I think when the doctor gives you the go ahead, you should start lifting weights

My experience was they had me doing light weight training starting about 5 weeks after my accident while I was still in the hospital's neuro-rehab unit.

I think it depends on what symptoms are currently presenting. If you are still seeing a MD or therapist I'd check with them first, but I think your plan of seeing how you react and take it from there is a prudent one.

I have pcs 2 1/2 yrs. no. Lifting weight is still an issue. A dr. can't tell you how much weight to lift....every brain is different. Sometimes I can lift a gallon with not much problem, sometimes I can't. My brain swells, I get much pressure and pain. Take it slow and see what you can do.
