Tinnitus cause is undetermined by ENT
was told by an ENT that although there is a time correlation between the concussion and the onset of tinnitus; although I have never had tinnitus before the concussion; and although there is no alternative cause the ENT can name, the ENT cannot say for certain that my tinnitus was caused by the concussion. SERIOUSLY??? I am convinced that the ENT just does not want to get involved. WTF is wrong with the world.

My ENT told me that your tinnitus may be caused by the stress of the trauma and not because of the injury and that the injury maybe a trigger for it. I had nothing to say as I was so sick of their lame assumptions. Clearly these people don't have any idea and this is a smart trick to dismiss the patient by annoying them.

The ENT is right. Only time connects the tinnitus with the concussion. He can not prove a relationship either way.
What difference does it make ? Knowing the cause does not mean he would know a cure. |
You are right that there is no cure for tinnitus. The difference would be those affected being compensated for it. I think many doctors do not want to get involved in the mess.

I am in the same boat. Although my hyperacusis is getting better, my tinnitus is not. It has been 14 months post-accident.

If so was there measure-able hearing loss? Alot of times the impact or shockwave from the concussion can damage inner and outer ear sensory cells. Unfortunately these do not regenerate. There is a small hope of spontaneous recovery in the first year. After 1 year of Tinnitus it's considered Chronic and your likely better off to live with it than fight it. Fight it only creates more anxiety. Easier said than done. |
Agreed that doctors can't prove that tinnitus is because of the injury. But we can't forget that hundreds of thousands of people get their tinnitus immediately within a week or in a couple of weeks after the head injury which proves that it's connected with the head trauma Also most of them didn't know that tinnitus existed before they got it.

I had a hearing test done. It came back normal.
After a year, there is no chance of recovery???? I know it was caused by the concussion. I never had any ear/hearing issues before the concussion. Same here, just over a year since the concussion, hyperacusis has improved, but tinnitus seems to be the same. |
I guess until every one of your other PCS symptoms has gone leaving just the tinnitus behind it's hard to know whether it's permanent. If you have anxiety or sleep issues then it could be related and recede when they do - that's my take on it.
