6 Months PCS

So it's been 6 months since i fell 10-12 feet and landed on my side hitting the right side of my head on concrete. I do believe my hips and shoulder took majority of impact or i would likely not be typing this today.

My pros are as follows:

Fortunate to be Able to ride a bike for 2-3 miles, do light workouts at the gym, and even play a set of Tennis. Headaches are gone as is most of noise sensitivity (hypercusis).

The Cons are as follows:

I suffer from bad Insomnia post accident.

Still some sensitive when i touch parts of head.

Tingling in my feet at times, does anyone know what this is?

The ringing in my right ear has not gone away.

I'm exhausted and fatigued most of the day yet can still make it to about 10pm-12am. Feels like brain fog, or should i say depersonalization.

Insomnia has been very difficult to cope with. Most of this i attest to Tinnitus in right ear.

So this is where I stand 6 months PCS. I'm really wondering if i will EVER get back my full energy level and edge? Although I'm able to work again and exercise again I'm not where i want to be.

I also understand that after 6 months there is limited hope of full recovery, is this true?

I never really had a chance to shut down and get proper rest because i run my own company and have huge responsibilities. I also blame the insomnia for what feels like a stalled recovery.

any hope or suggestions?

Thanks.

Your fatigue is likely due to your insomnia. If you can find a way to get some good sleep, you may see a big improvement in the fatigue. You may need to change your daily schedule so you have more time to slow down before going to bed. I need at least 4 hours of quiet before I can fall asleep. The concussed brain often needs more effort to slow the release of adrenaline and allow the brain and body to settle down.

The tingling feet sounds like a possible nerve issue in the neck or back. Learning good sleeping posture may help.

For the tinnitus and sleep, I would suggest a fan close to your head.

Thanks Mark! 3 if lucky 4 hours of sleep per night certainly doesn't cut it. The Tinnitus ignited on the 3rd day post accident where i had not slept as my head was full of migraines, bruising and pain.

IF only i could get 7-8 hours per night. boy would that be a gift.

Take care and keep up the good information for all.

PCS 21/2 yrs into it. Still many horrible symptoms.

I am still insomniac,,,,a full nights sleep would be so wonderful. U tube has some wonderful 8 hr guided meditations for sleep, depression, anxiety, etc. They help. Plus you are listening to positive reinforcement which helps a lot. Kava is a good thing to take to relax. I am doing lots of turmeric for the pain. My symptoms are very scary, and i love the meditations. You are lucky you can exercise...I can hardly lift anything. I can walk tho, this helps. Everybody heals at different paces...stressers lengthen healing time...no one knows how long it may take to heal.

You need to find a way to get more sleep. Have you tried sleeping in a recliner with the TV on ? Get real comfortable and let your mind drift away while watching something non-stimulating. I often get my best sleep this way.

I take gabapentin to help my brain and body 'let go.' Otherwise, I can get caught in a cycle of body twitching.

I agree with Mark 100%. I have also had horrible trouble sleeping since my accident except mine was accompanied by horrible anxiety, so I don't know what the root problem was- the insomnia or anxiety. Either way the not sleeping would just set me up for another day of misery. I feel my healing has been delayed and my mental state affected all from lack of sleep.

I don't know how you feel about going the medication route, but I was put on Mirtazapine (Remeron) and it was helped tremendously. It's an antidepressant that aids in sleep. I tried Melatonin and it wasn't cutting it. I'm like Mark, I need something to help calm me down and I also follow Mark's suggestion for good sleep hygiene. I also take a liquid magnesium/calcium supplement before bed for muscle twitching.

Before this I could sleep effortlessly for hours on end. Oh how I miss the days of crawling into the bed and drifting off!

Martin,

I am 2 years on and over it mostly, apart from neuralgia. My advice is wait until all symptoms are gone before exercising. You will delay your recovery by engaging in stressful physical activity when your body/brain are fatigued. Good luck - it is temporary for most keep this in mind!

Take it easy, take the pressure and demands of yourself, if things stress you out avoid them for now if you can!

Mouse, so glad you found relief finally. I am curious to know if your tinnitus has gown down? How often do you hear it?
