Tilt Table Test
Hello everyone,
Has anyone had a "positive" tilt table test? I became very nauseated and passed out on mine. I read this is not very common but the cardiologist said this is sometimes seen with CRPS patients. Anyone! Thank you - Norwich |

Thanks Jimking!
I got a good laugh out of that!!! Well, at least they didn't turn me upside down which is what I was half expecting. Having had a variety of diagnoses over the years one does get a little sick and tired of all the testing. Ready at any moment to say ENOUGH. Would still like to hear if anyone else fainted. Thanks, Norwich |
I've at 3 positive tilt table tests and have been diagnosed with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tacharcadi Syndrome). It is caused when your blood pressure and pulse cannot regulate, causing you to faint or become unwell.
My blood pressure fluctuates rapidly. It can go from 80/60 to 190/120 in a matter of minutes. Its scary as it causes me to faint and I get the most awful migraines, lose my train of thought etc. The doctor who did my tilt tables had to stop them within a few minutes as I was about to faint (they didn't want me fainting - only to see how much my BP changed). I did get a LOT of symptoms on them so knew my BP had fluctuated a lot. Like you I became nauseated, dizzy as well as getting chest palpitations and become extremely hot. I was also noted to have severe pooling in my feet and arms. One of the tilt table tests I had was also a meal challenge. I had to drink a milkshake type drink and see what happened. This caused my BP to rise too much and I got severe migraine - was told this was uncommon as in a "normal" person your BP should drop slightly after food. POTS may be something you want to look into. My Cardiologist / Autonomic Doctor told me that it is common with RSD patients or those with autonomic issues. I also have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and it goes hand in hand with that - triple wammy  It might be worth you asking the doctor how much your pulse increased by - if it increases by 30 beats per minute it is more than likely POTS. Another thing you could do is buy an home blood pressure monitor. I've got one and its interesting to see just how much my BP and pulse fluctuates. I hope you feel better soon. I know how nasty things like this can be. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Alison |
