Husband with RSD
My husband has had RSD since a work injury (police officer) in 1987. The injury and RSD was originally in his right hand, but has now spread into his shoulder, back and left arm. He is an avid runner - runs every day - and that is how he deals with the pain. Just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this - recently, after long runs, he has what he calls a "spell" - begins about an hour after the run - usually starts with a dry mouth, then progresses into a severe exacerbation of the RSD - arm feels like it's on fire, extreme pain, he gets pale, sweats profusely, severe diarrhea. It takes several hours to recover. Anyone ever experience anything like this?

Hi and Welcome!!!
I too have RSD but I can't say that I have experienced what your husband is experiencing... There are a great bunch of people over on the RSD Thread that may be able to help you out. Try posting your question over here: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21  abbie |
Hi Eileen :) Yes, please DO come post at the rsd forum, we'd love to have you. You can either cut and paste what you wrote here, or you can write a new intro in there.
What your hubby is experiencing is not unusual... but we can chat about it in the proper forum. |
Hi
I am from the PN forum but keep a eye on the wonderful forum that
will help you and hubby. Just wanting to ssay welcome and you really have come to a great place. I know you will have all there help :) Sue |
serotonin...
Elevated serotonin can come from taking SSRI drugs (prozac), or from
sudden release from carcinoids (which are found in the GI tract), or from a beginning tumor (hidden in the lung). A 24 urine test can screen for this biogenic amine. You don't mention shortness of breath during the attack, which can be present too. Ask your doctor for the test, and perhaps a lung x-ray, to rule this out. |
This may sound like a silly
question, but it's not really...Has he ever had a glucose tolerance test? The longer ones 3-5 hours...are best to see if maybe his exercise and 'spells' are connected.... Just a thought!
