Vertigo?

So I've been lying in bed on my back eyes closed trying to sleep and suddenly feel like I'm rocking back and forth. My mom says that's a form of vertigo but I've never had it before either pre-concussions or post. Has anyone else had experience with this? It's not severe and it's not especially bothersome, it's just weird.

Yes. All the time. Mines pretty severe though. If I think im sitting up in a chair straight, evidently my head rocks back and forth im told. Half the time people ask if im drunk because of how I walk.

Yeah I get that occasionally as well and other weird sensations when trying to fall asleep.

I get that kind of vertigo if I am really fatigued or stressed. It only lasts a few minutes and can happen if I am walking or lying down or just standing still. So different from my "regular" vertigo where I just feel dizzy.

You're right - it is weird...

I found it helpful when talking to doctors to distinguish between "vertigo" and "dizziness".

Vertigo is the feeling that either you or the environment around you is spinning.
Dizziness is the feeling of unsteadiness or like you're on a boat type of a feeling.

I used to just say "vertigo" to describe my symptoms and then a physical therapist explained the difference to me.
To an ENT it is very important to know when you're having one or the other, as it leads to different causes.

100% correct. There is a huge difference between vertigo and dizzyness. Although they are both very close in nature in some circumstances.

Good to know about the vertigo vs dizziness. I have a follow-up with my GP tomorrow (ostensibly to see if I'm cleared for work next week - I can already tell you that's not happening) and it'll be something I can mention to her. It's so weird - I have a new rocking love seat I've been spending a lot of time on and that's kid of how it feels. Like I'm still rocking on that when I'm in bed. Weird.
