Failed Bone Graft
So I had tooth #3 removed from an infected root canal. Now I'm pretty sure in bone graft went wrong. A lot of the synthetic bone is falling out and I have a hole that goes pretty far back. I called my oral surgeon and he doesn't seem worried. I am really freaking out. I should not have a BIG whole in my jaw!!! I don't see him till next Thursday and I had it done last Thursday. Should I be worried what should I do? I called him twice about it and both times he said the same thing.

Hi Syd,
When a bone graft is placed in the tooth socket, the socket is packed fully and tightly with the graft material. Then a collagen membrane is placed over the graft near the opening and the wound is sutured. As the area heals, it is typical for some pieces of graft material to come out. However, the pieces should be very tiny like pieces of sand and the wound should not appear to be open. If you are very concerned about this, then make an appointment and see the oral surgeon. Don't wait until next thursday. Bryanna Quote:
