SSI question.

Hi, my name is Kayla. I was told to file for SSDI by my doctor on March 4th 2014 due to my Meniere's disease, I kept working and got to the point I could hardly (and can still hardly) do my necessary work habits on a daily basis so I applied on August the 11th 2014. On August 18th 2014, I got a call saying I was denied due to not paying enough into Social Security. The case worker suggested that I should apply for SSI until I work enough to have paid enough into Social Security, so I did the application on August 18th 2014 and submitted all doctor forms discussing my disease as well as all medication that they put me on for it as well as all of the medical decisions made on my disease treatments. On September 11th 2014, I checked my mail and had a packet in there to fill out about my medical info and job info over the last few years so I filled it all out and mailed it back.
I was wondering what the average wait time is to hear back on what the decision is going to be at this point with all the info said above.

That's odd that the original application wasn't used for SSI as well. Usually they include both until they determine eligibility for SSI and/or SSDI.

You didn't state when, or if, you stopped working below the SGA level ($1070 per month.)

Timeframes for each step of the process vary state by state. You should be able to find that info at SSDfacts.com.

I do still work. I was working about 20 / 22 hours a week. But with the fact that the symptoms of my disease effect my ability to perform the daily job routines, they cut my hours down really low. I'm not lucky to work 10 hours a week. If that. :/
I make 9.30 an hour, so it's still under the amount.

Is it documented that your employer cut your hours to accommodate your health restrictions?

Three to six months.

For SSI:
"Title XVI provides for SSI payments to individuals (including children under age 18) who are disabled and have limited income and resources."

For SSDI:
"For all individuals applying for disability benefits under title II, and for adults applying under title XVI, the definition of disability is the same. The law defines disability as the inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity (SGA) by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment(s) which can be expected to result in death or which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months."

As far as I know, yes.

I failed to mention that this disease is expected to last as long as I shall live, and it is slowly making me go deaf. My hear dropped 10 decibels in 4 months according to the hearing tests. And my memory is going to Hell (excuse my language,, I apologize) and will not correct itself.

And I also wanted to thank you all for your help on giving me information. I really do appreciate it. A lot.
I know I probably did not make much sense but that did not stop you all in being so nice. I appreciate it greatly. And I only worry about my time frame in recieving an answer after getting my hours cut due to having a baby whom is only seven months old.

Were your hours cut due to the pregnancy? That timing might be perceived that way.

Do you have it in both ears?
