selling on e-bay
 

was wondering if we are allowed to make a small amount of money, while on disability. I would like to sell some junk on e-bay. as I need the cash. I only get 509.00 a month on ss

If you are selling some 'junk' then presumably the item is one you bought and used for a length of time. And, presumably you would be selling the item for considerably less than what you paid for it. So, in my view you are merely recouping some value of that item, and not making a "profit".

I guess it might depend if your Ebay sales are run as side business of some sort, but it is a traceable influx of money..

Others might be more in the know..on the details ..

You are supposed to notify SS of any business earnings. So, if you regularly sell on Ebay, or are buying items for resale, than you need to let them know.

If you have a garage sale or sell some used personal items on Ebay a few times a year, that probably doesn't fall into the scope as if it's a business.

If it takes you 20+ hours to list, pack, and mail your items--that's probably a grey area that might get you into trouble if you don't notify them.

I didn't relize that I could earn 1,070.00 a month while drawing ssd. good to know. ty

You can sell your used goods, the stuff in your house that you no longer use. However, if you are purchasing items for purposes of selling at a profit, you are in a business and self-employed. And the amount of your monthly profit and the hours it takes you to earn that amount would need to be reported to SSA. It may or may not be considered Substantial Gainful Activity. Probably not enough to matter, but some people totally support themselves by buying and selling items. Profit matters.
