Hand Pain

I have been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy (hands and feet).
Neurologist has no idea where it's coming from.
I have not had pain so far but for the past 10 days my hand has been hurting(i think the bones because they hurt when I press on them).I can hardly use my hand, can't hold things, can't cut things (from the pain). Also hurts when i sleep.
Would this be from the neuropathy?is this what neuropathic pain feels like?
or could it be something else?

Thank you,
Mariana

It would be difficult to say if it were neurological.

I'd try Salonpas patches (the original ones with methyl salicyclate in them). You can cut them to wrap around your fingers, leaving the knuckles free to bend.
These are at WalMart, RiteAid and Costco.

It is important to get the correct ones, as there are many other forms.

I use them all the time for the arthritis I have in my hands and feet too. They are inexpensive and work well for most things.
Some hand pain can be tendonitis too. These will work for them as well.

I also wear wrist splints at night. This one is quite comfortable and affordable (at CVS these are over 30 dollars each).

These wrist braces worn at night protect your hands from bending and compressing the carpal tunnel. This model I've had for over a year and compared to others is the most comfortable.

I've worn braces at night on and off for over 30+ yrs. They can really help.

These are two over the counter interventions that may work for you. I still use them as my hands seem to go in flares and improvement still today.

Thank you Mrs.D.

I will try the salonpas.
I tried to go natural by putting ginger and garlic on my hand and now I have a burn with blisters.

Let your blisters completely heal up before putting the Salonpas
on them. The patches should only go on intact, clean dry skin.

Also if you tend to have cold hands, you can investigate fingerless gloves. I used them alot this summer (it was really cold at our upNorth place), day and night! I found them very helpful.
I got mine on Ebay, and they have plastic numbles on the palms to help with traction so they are not so slippery.

I'll probably start wearing them here at home in a month or so as we keep the house cool all winter.

Hi Mariana,

It is hard to say, but nerve pain takes different forms. Numb, tingling, achey, cold feeling, burning, stabbing etc. I am beginning to have a smouldering burning sensation (not red hot but like simmering) from my elbows into my hands, left greater than right. I was hoping the neuropathy would stay put in the feet/lower legs. Silly me!

Sorry you are going through this. This site is full of great advice.
