automatically swithed to retirement based ss ?

i just turned 62, i am on ssdi : will i be automatically switched to retirement based social security , or do i have to tell social security ? thanks

SS will switch you automatically at your full retirement age. There's nothing you need to do.

I asked SS if I was to stay on SSDI, when I reached full retirement age, what I would receive, They said I would get the same amount I am getting now.
I hope she was right.

Yes. It's never less.

I believe in some cases it can be more--perhaps depending on retired spouses benefits?

The amount changes/increases according to the yearly COLA.

According to my SS Benefit statement booklet, my regular SS (retirement) amt is lower than my SSDI amount. When I turned 62 a few years ago, I received a letter of SS asking me which amount I wanted at the time of my "full retirement" (age 66). I picked the higher SSDI amount. :D
Earlier this year, I got the same letter but asking this time if I still wanted the SSDI "retirement" amount.

I am assuming I will be getting the same letter confirming the amt I want until 2016 which is the year I turn 66 my full retirement age.
