Post traumatic hyper irritability disorder ?

Anyone familiar with the term "Post traumatic hyperirritability disorder" ? I have pasted an old thread about it on neurotalk but couldn't get it clearly. Does it resemble with PTSD ? I will be greatful if somebody explains what it means and if people with PCS have this disorder http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread77789.html

Hi Galaxy1012,

I do not have PCS but the reference to PTSD caught my attention so I hope you don't mind if I respond. I have PTSD ;)

I have never heard of Post traumatic hyperirritability syndrome and there doesn't seem to be much information about it. I did run across this article:
http://www.medlit.info/member/vol3iss2/refsmedcause.htm

From the little bit I have found and read, Post-Traumatic Hyperirritability is not the same as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The link below and the link above might help you to understand the difference, at least I hope so :o

PTHS sounds much different than PTSD although I would not be surprised if many with PTSD also suffer from PTHS. PTSD disrupts the way the brain thinks. PTHS changes the way the body responds to sensory stimuli. In PTHS, the brain misreads sensory signals as pain signals. In PTSD, the brain in more likely to respond to sensory stimuli with a fight or flight mode or other anxiety.

It appears to be an extreme form of the sensory overload common to PCS subjects. Some with PCS may experience PTHS.

We need to be careful to not over-diagnose ourselves. This can lead to anxiety issues.

From what I found, PTHS is commonly treated with barbiturates. Not a benign treatment protocol.
