It is recommended if you are taking Prednisone. I take 1200 mg each day.

Are your calcium levels low?

Agree with Mark

I was just diagnosed and started on 20 mg prednisone (low dose from what I understand). My doc told me to take Calcium and Vit D with the prednisone.

Corticoids lower the Calcium absortion rate in the body and this could ultimately lead to osteoporosis. That's why it is recommended to take extra Calcium AND vitamin D3. I take 500 mg Calcium and 1000 IU vitamin D3 daily.

Hope_No, I, too, would like to know why you want to take more calcium. Has it been tested? Are you on Pred?

Too much calcium in the body is not a good thing, and can lead to other problems.

I think you should ask your internist about any supplements you should be on.

Annie
