Working
If you have been out of work for about 8 years, as you deal with your illness, does this matter to social security?

SS deals w/work credits when it comes to "work." Check out the following links & click on the links within the articles:

I believe what you're questioning is if you haven't worked for 8 years, does this show some type of proof that you're unable to work?
No, I don't believe so. Unsuccessful work attempts are considered evidence that you've attempted to adapt by trying new jobs. (You need to concentrate on proving you were disabled at the time of your Alleged Onset Date. Your current application is NOT claiming you've been unable to work for the past 8 years. It will be much harder to prove you qualified 8 years ago, so you're not helping by trying to prove something you no longer qualify for anyway. You or your attorney chose to amend the Alleged Onset Date to make it easier to be approved. If you don't take advantage of the easier standard of approval, then what was the point of waiving your rights to the back pay prior to your latest Alleged Onset Date?) http://www.disabilitysecrets.com/res...bility-how-s-2 "Unsuccessful Work Attempts If, before you filed a claim for disability, you tried to do different kinds of work to avoid having to apply for benefits, this will reflect well on the validity of your claims. For instance, if you had to quit your job as a delivery truck loader because of back pain, but you tried to work as a driver and dispatcher for a couple of months each, this shows you were trying to work but couldn't (and having worked won't hurt your claim because the work will count as an unsuccessful work attempt)." |
