not sure what to do anymore

I am having chronic 24/7 pain on right side of my abdomen after my lap kidney surgery 8 months ago. I have u/s, ct scan, mri done nothing showing up on them. My urologist has sais he cant do anymore for me. I have seen couple of general surgeons who said they can't operate on me since nothing showing up. After I saw pain managment who did some injections, and nerve blocks but that is also failure.
I am at the point where Im sick of this pain, its constant dull ache 24/7, not related to eating, activity or anything, none of the other meds like lyrica, elavil, gabapentin, cymbalta help unless its narcotics in large amounts. I dont know if he cut some nerve or I have scar tissue pain. Lately Im feeling very depressed and I feel I rather die than live this way. If theres anything else left to try please let me know. I am from Toronto, canada btw. Thanks

no relief of chronic pain

Hello Up jo,

Did we ever think that pain could be a part of our lives.

I had chronic nerve pain, and osteo pain. Had surgery, lumbar laminectomy and fusion. The surgery pain was the piece of cake for me. Good pain meds. Never had morphine before but it was great.

It's the pain now that is unbearable. I know that moving is better than sitting or laying around and giving in but I don't know about you but enough is enough isn't it!

I have tried my old pain meds from before surgery and it doesn't seem to be helping so my thought it's muscular. Someone said to try yoga.

Maybe that might help you! I see that in the mornings on tv there is a man on tv that does yoga. I walk my road up and back twice a day now. It's been a month out since my last surgery. They had to go in twice in one week. I had to have fluid drained after it caused excruciating pain in my legs.

Well I will put you in prayer and ask God for relief of your pain. Maybe some one here can give us some suggestions. We are here for you and don't hesitate to come back.

God Bless You and here is a group hug :grouphug:

Depression Important.

Hey Upjo,
Chronic pain is draining for all of us on here, but the most important symptom I read from your post is your obvious depression. When you get this down you really need support. Have you spoken to your Doctor about it, are you in Counselling or on anti-depressants?
Your not knowing where the pain is coming from, frustration with Doctors and medication is not good for your mental health, which has a direct bearing on your physical health.
Do whatever you can to change your mindset, you will be better equipped to deal with the present and anything the future may bring.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Glad to meet you too. How long have you had chronic pain? Do you or have you suffered from depression? I felt I had a touch of it, but I think it's important to stay active in anyway you individually can. I am blessed to have a husband who asked me and I am glad that I decided to open up to him.

I just don't want to bring him down. And I was a bit nervous to say anything to my Dr. Should we do that if you feel just a little blue because I think some of this depression is normal.

Thanks for your thoughts

Thanks everyone for replying. I have tried yoga, light stretching, also tried acupuncture twice, massage, none of it seems to have any effect on pain. I have tried to everything to alter the pain someway, even pressing hard into pain area with my fist, but its still stays that same dull ache. Thats why Im depressed because I cant even find a comfortable position where I wont hurt. I havent told my doctors about depression symptoms and thoughts of suicide because Im afraid they might refuse to see me or stop giving me meds. Because at the moment Im taking bunch of diff pills just to knock myself out, so most of time Im sleeping like 16-18 hours everyday, that's like my best escape from this pain. Also Im only 26, and none of the doctors give me opiates for pain because they think Im young and will become adicted, so Ive had to go to a methadone clinic for addicts and pretend to the doctor Im an addict to get something for pain. Every day I have to go to pharmacy for daily methadone dose and every week I have to go for urine sample( so that Im not taking other opiates other than methadone) and **** in front of camera cuz they watch you pee, so I even hate the health care system here, why I have to go through all this even though I have genuine pain. My only hope is Im waiting on two nerve block clinics associated with two major hospitals here, maybe if they can do something, if not than my life is ruined for sure.

Hi Strhuntrss,
Just entering my 25th year of extreme Neurological Hypersensitivity. Had first serious MVA at 16 (1977), crushed vertebrae, whiplash x3, compressed spinal cord in neck, Arachnoid Cyst, moderate anxiety, severe depression… etc.
I have opened up more to you wonderful people in my Bio than to any individual Doctor.
I am so pleased you have a supportive husband and were able to talk to him about your feeling down. However, I do feel it important to let your Doctor know you are starting to have some concerns. It doesn't necessarily mean he is going to pack you full of vallium, perhaps you just need to talk things out with a professional. Better to address potential problems before they become serious.
Any time you want to chat about anything, I'll be here.

Dave.

Upjo,
No Doctor would refuse to see you when you tell them you are so depressed you are considering self harm. It is this admission from you that will begin to get you the mental health support you need. For your own sake, see them for this immediately.
As for your pain, I have no answer but clearly the bunches of different pills are doing more harm than good. Have they all been prescribed? Have you checked for contra-indications? You sleep more than I do and I have to take 2 opiates, an anaesthetic and a cox-2 inhibitor. That is no life for a 26 yo.
Hopefully the hospital treatments you have coming up will address your pain issues, then you will be able to return to a more normal life.

Dave.

I knew a fellow who had lap surgery for his gall bladder. He has pain in one of the incisions every day since... and it has been years.

I wonder if Lidoderm patches would work? Or a compounded transdermal cream with clonidine, gabapentin, ketamine, an NSAID, lidocaine etc would work? There are many formulas some doctors use, but these ingredients seem the most effective this way.

Chronic pain after surgery can be due to something left behind, festering in there. But you say they looked and saw nothing?
