Haven't been here for a while!

Hi Friends,
Haven't been here for a while, I guess I just learned to accept my full body small fiber neuropthy as my new normal, it's hard but with the help
Of The Lord I just live one day at a time! You all are so helpful
In this forum that I have a question for you...on Dec.14th, I came down with what I think was the stomach flu, for a few days I had diarreah and dry heaves, it's been almost 3 weeks and I still don't feel right. I had stomach surgery over 10 years ago for acid reflux and now I feel
Like I have acid reflux back, but it's only been after this bout I had with the flu. I went to the Doctor a couple of weeks ago and he put me on PPI's (acid blockers) but I they are not helping. I'm eating ok but just feel a gurgling noise in my throat all of the time and have upper (right under breastbone) and upper back pain. Just need some advice on what this could be. Could it take 3 weeks or longer to get over the flu? My SFN is terrible and I know can cause digestive problems, but wouldn't the PPI's be helping that problem? Just need some help. Thanks, Jan

Two weeks on PPI, 10 yrs since surgery, thorasic pain, I would think an appointment would in order. IMHO Good Luck, Ken in Texas.

Yes, I agree with Ken.

Did you have mesh put in around your esophagus? What kind of surgery did you have?

Cancer you know can cause neuropathies. It is called paraneoplastic neuropathy. Not to scare you, but really you
should get this looked at. Get tested for H.pylori too.

I am so sorry you have so much misery. Please check this out with a gastroenterologist and tell them about your chest pain too.
Until then, eat small portions, and don't stress your stomach with weird foods etc.

Hi MrsD
I had a Nissen fudoplication. Not sure if they used mesh. Yeah that is a scary prospect that cancer could be causing my neuropathy. I have had extensive blood tests, especially for autoimmune disease and so far nothing has shown up. I never feel very well so I often times have blood tests. So far most things are negative. My neuropathy has gotten worse over the years since I was diagnosed, when I say worse it's hard to believe that full body SFN could actually get worse but it has( more burning and more numbness) I still have very bad hypoglycemia, hard to control. If cancer was the culprit of this wouldn't some blood test of shown something by now? I was diagnosed with SFN in Sept.2011 3 years ago, and I have had every blood test known to mankind. I attribute my SFN to either a DPT vaccine I received right before this all happened or my severe hypoglycemia. I don't know though, are there other tests I should ask for. Also I did have a Hpylori infection several years ago, I am having an endoscopic test done in the morning, so I will ask the Doctor to test for that. What a mess this whole thing is. My last neurology appt. was about a yeast ago, he sent me to a Endocronology Doc who also did a bunch of labs.
Still nothing unusual. I just don't know what else to do. Would love hearing your take on all this. Thanks, Jan

Jan,

Glad you are having an endoscopic test done. That should be very helpful in getting a better idea of what is going on. Please let us know what the results of the test reveal.

Prayers coming your way.:smileypray:

Hi Gerry

Thank you for your prayers! I had endoscopy done, it showed that I had something called "moderate bile retention" I'm not sure what this means yet because I was a little loopy coming out of the medication they gave me for the procedure. I know he is prescribing me some medication for the condition but it is not a PPI. When I'm more coherent tomorrow I will find out what meds I'm being prescribed. I'm not even sure what Bile retention is or what exactly causes it, so if anyone know I would appreciate a reply to this? Thank you.

If you are not passing bile properly... you might try taurine amino acid to help. Taurine complexes cholesterol in the bile and helps it to be passed. It is very effective and not dangerous. I use it when I have my "gall bladder" attacks, and it works. I have no stones but get severe cramping once or twice a year.

Taurine is easily available online and not expensive. I always keep it around for the cats too.

example:
http://www.amazon.com/Jarrow-Formula...ywords=taurine

Start at 1000mg a day... that is often enough for some people.
