Increased heartbeat

I just wondering if anyone have experienced increased heartbeating together with MG or Mestinon?
Lately I have that on and off. Sometimes then I lay down and sometimes then Iīm standing. I noticed that were is a connection between my weakness and the heartbeating. Some times I think itīs beacause of the Mestinon, but itīs usually between the doses. I can also get twitchings in the muscle when the Mestinon is leaving the body.
Itīs all make me very confused.

The mestinon should not directly cause your heart to speed up because it increases acetylcholine, and it acetylcholine actually slows the heart whereas it stimulates other muscles.

It possibly could indirectly increase it by allowing your other muscles to work more thereby increasing the demand for more blood supply to those muscles.

Hi, Moortje. Too much Mestinon/acetylcholine can cause bradycardia, heartbeat below 60.

Has anyone checked your O2 when your pulse goes up?

When MG gets worse, your O2 can go lower, usually due to weak chest wall muscles. Are you more short of breath when your pulse goes up? Or in between Mestinon doses?

When the O2 goes lower, the body tries to compensate for that. The heart beats faster to circulate more oxygen to your tissues.

A higher heart rate can mean other things, too, though. It can go up if you're dehydrated or have other medical conditions. It might go up if you've had too much salt.

You should probably bring it up to your internist and/or neuro, because any changes or trends in MG or your overall health is worth doing that!

No one has checked my 02, but I do feel that were is a connection between them. My heartbeat was 114/min today in the morning, before even taken my Mestinon. I was weaker and itīs maybe the body trying to compensate. I also have problem with weak chest muscles on and off. The last week I have had a cold and being much weaker. Also more problem with the chest and heart again.

I think you should either call your neurologist or, probably, be seen by a primary care doctor/internist or go to (if you have it) urgent care.

A cold can make MG worse. Do you have a fever?

Only a doctor can help you right now. And you really need some help!!

I hope you'll feel better soon!

Annie
