Self Diagnosis PN?

Three months ago started getting weird head pains; dizzy, throbbing. Went to Doc and said to double my Blood pressure med, Lisinopril as my BP was 150/98
A month ago, started getting tingling and numbness in my fingers and toes at night only. Now it's up my right arm. I also feel like someone punched me in face as I have dull pain under right eye. Acupuncturist said I have a pinched nerve. Primary doc said its in my head. Brain scan was negative as well as chest X-ray.
Hours of web search and found links to Lisinopril and PN. I've been on it for 10 years and I'm 57yrs old. A anyone with similar story? I think I need to be tested for PN . Who does that? Blood test was clean. Doing a RBC magnesium test to check this essential mineral in our body.

Damn pain.

I had a drug induced lupus from lisinopril. I took it for years until I had a crisis and had to have it changed.

ACE inhibitors are derived from snake venom and create an excess of bradykinin (a biogenic amine) which dilates blood vessels. But it causes all sorts of grief for some people who cannot clear it away fast enough to be normal otherwise.
The enzyme to clear it away is called C-1 inhibitor, and some people are low in this genetically.

I'd discuss changing your medication with your doctor. It might be a huge surprise for you to see the symptoms fall away like mine did. Lisinopril was causing me mega grief, and since stopping it I control my BP with a small dose of beta blocker which is much less than before.

Do a search on bradykinin... you'll see.

Welcome LennyBlue. :Tip-Hat:

Thank you mrsD.
I've asked my Doc to prescribe something else other than Lisinopril . He gave me Toprol XL. I hope this Lidinopril poison can be flushed out of my system after 10 years of use. I feel terrible. May go to neurologist to get checked for Periphal Neuropathy.
Who else here can link Lisinopril with PN or other illness?

This has more to do with you than the drug. People vary in how much C-1 inhibitor they have to remove the bradykinin.

The cough is only one symptom of this. Tissue swelling leads to pain all types of odd symptoms, as the nerves become compressed. The swelling of the intestines in the abdomen leads to pain and misdiagnosis of gastrointestinal disorders.

If it hits your lungs, you may die suddenly with throat closure or larynx paralysis. Swelling of the fingers and toes can be common as well as skin flushing and burning.

If you tend to react to bug bites and minor things like injections with swelling and redness, this is a potential warning sign also.
Some people have swelling tongue and lips, that comes and goes also. Dull pain in the face as you describe also could be sinus congestion, compressing a nerve. It takes about a month or two to come down off this excess bradykinin. I didn't really feel normal for about a year. Today my hands are no longer swollen or my feet.
