Winging scapula
Hello, I recently came across this website and read up on a few posts made by other users regarding my condition. I had a skiing accident, December 2013, that resulted in damage to the long thoracic nerve on my right side. Long story short, I went to a few doctors who were of no help and ended up having nerve decompression surgery done last August. I have improved in terms of range of motion and pain but my scapula still shows the same degree of winging as before. I guess my question is, where do I start looking for help? There are so many posts about the condition and so many different people giving advice.
Sorry if this post is in the wrong place. |
Do you maintain good tricep function? If you do have full arm extension and no pain when firing your tricep, gentle tricep exercises (with a theraband or such) may help innervation with your long thoracic nerve. This is the same nerve roots as for scapula's. Activating this area and strengthening your tricep may help draw your scapula back into place. This article kind-of explains it and indirectly talks about your issue - perhaps in reverse (tricep weakness leading to winging scapula). http://en.allexperts.com/q/Chiroprac...ing-tricep.htm
