Valerian Root for nerve pain

Aloha... as I have mentioned my relief in other threads I need to mention it again due to the calming effects I have gotten from this herb. In the hopes that it will help others too. I have suffered for over 20yrs and only some relief from Capzasin until I tried this. I take it at night and during the day as needed when my feet start screaming at me... Search it. It's a nerve calmative... Has anyone else tried this? I am so happy :)

What a timely post! Amazon just delivered some to my doorstep.

I decided to try it since I read it works on gaba receptors. So glad it's helping you!

Can I ask how much you take?

:) fantastic... at first I took one cap, breakfast lunch and bedtime...did that for about a week or so ... now I take one at bedtime and one in the am before I start my day... and then again as need for pain. I sure do hope it works well for you too. I swear the first cap I took in the am I felt the calm in about 15min :) As my system built up.. I needed it less. I am a hard working CNA caring for the needs of others worse off then me and I wouldn't let my feet stop me but started to feel worse and worse as I aged. Now I can get up and go :) good luck and there is hope. keep us posted..... Aloha

Ok, thanks. I think I'll start with 500 mg before bed tonight. I found this online, but haven't sought out the research report itself.

"Even more impressive results emerged from a well-designed 1996 trial involving 121 insomnia sufferers. Among the benefits of valerian root extract taken one hour before bedtime (2 tablets of 300 mg each): significantly improved sleep quality, dream recall, and sense of psychological well-being."

Mahalo. :)

That's originally what I took it for... for years and then I found on a search that tied it to PN, and other nerve issues. It does calm the nerves. It is easy to find at any health food store.

This is very interesting. I would love to give this a try.

Does anyone know if this is counter-indicated for other medications/herbal remedies? Are there any side effects of which one needs to be mindful?

Aloha Hockey... well, I am not a Doctor but what I did was google... Valerian Root for Peripheral Neuropathy and found lots there and encouragement. I like what I read... so decided to try. I just took one cap this am and my feet are still calm as we speak... Yee-Haa.7pm my time.

I believe that PharmaGaba is better.

Valerian extracts can be unreliable.. Some have tested
Out in studies as not present in products.

PharmaGaba does not cause drowsiness for daytime use.

Iherb has an affordable one now. Not all Gaba supplements
Are absorbed into the brain.. The PharmaGaba is unique.

I was hoping you would weigh in, mrsD. :)

Valerian Root and supplements and other drugs.

Any complications with Valerian Root as far as drug interactions with vitamin supplements. I'm assuming that those using it have eliminated gabapentin and any sleep drug such as Klonopin.
