Has anyone used DermaTran cream for CRPS?
 

My pain management specialist recently prescribed a topical cream from DermaTran for the severe CRPS in the ball of my left foot. (I have been heel limping for 3 years now. Ugh.) But when I googled it, a lot of the reviews said they had rashes, etc. but that the specialty pharmacy was good about trying a different combo if you alerted them to the problem. But that still makes me wary. Does it work?? If it is a miracle worker, I'm willing to give it a go, even though the hassle of tweaking ingredients makes me anxious. I've had enough hassle in my life between the CRPS and now 2 forms of fast-progressing arthritis. (Sucks.)

Can anyone tell me if they've used it and what their experiences have been?

I have not used Dermatrans products specifically and am wondering what the "hook" is over any other compounding pharmacy. I found relief with one compounded topical around my surgical scar that had gabapentin and ketamine in it. Tried another with everything but the kitchen sink in it and didn't notice much. For what it's worth the one that was kind of sticky seemed to sit on the skin and not work as well. The helpful one was creamy and stayed creamy. Some products crystallize over time and then you can't rub it in. I think topicals definitely have a place but they are very dependent on the vehicle chosen, etc. I also found them to be fairly expensive. When I tried a new one I just had them make up the smallest amount possible so I wasn't overcommitted.

I don't know how helpful any of this might of been but it's all I got! I hope you find relief soon.

I haven't tried dermatran specifically because my insurance didn't cover that pharmacy, but I did get a similar compound cream from my local specialty pharmacy. I have a lot of pain in the ball of my foot (at first) and it helped a lot, but I mostly only use it on the bad days now, since there's nothing else I can take. I suggest having your doctor wrote a script for the cream you can take to your local specialty pharmacy and work with them. I had problems with the medication in the cream not dissolving (there were little chunks) and they made me a new one without me having to bring in the bad one. I live in a city and normally there's no customer service. A local place can work with you better than a national place. Just a thought. But there is no miracle cream. I can tell you that in the beginning, it was a life saver for me. Now, it helps on the bad days and thus is worth it for me.

I have. It only worked when I put it in the scar from the wound that caused the RSD. It seemed to calm down the burn in the entire leg. But it didnt work anywhere else on the leg.

My insurance wouldnt cover it, so I cant afford to keep using it. It sucks when you find something that helps and the insurance decides it wont pay for it.

RSD sucks, and so does insurance companies sometimes....
