Post Concussion forehead problem
It has been a month since my concussion (january 170, the worst of my symptoms (nausea and extreme dizziness) are gone. But now I got a new symptom, my forehead feels numb, heavy, and swollen, does anybody have similar experience or recommendations? ( I hit my head on the floor on grass so it wasn't on my forehead)

Sorry meant to say January 17, and meant to say I hit the back of my head on grass floor

Hi, sounds like when you hit the back of your head on the grass your brain may have gone backwards hit the back of the skull then bounced forward to the front - coup-contrecoup injury it's called. The brain swells with bruising, it can take time for the swelling to come up and go down completely in the meantime you could get different symptoms arise including a feeling of pressure in the head. I would take it easy, no strenuous activity and quit alcohol (it dehydrates the brain) until you are completely better.

I hope its just that, but since the last 3 days everytime I wake up, my forehead feels swollen and numb and so so do my hands. I'm worried that there is a circulation problem, like not enough blood is going through while im laying down

You could have a circulation/inflammation issue related to your neck. The various positions of the head/neck when sleeping can cause inflammation that can interrupt nerve signals and blood flow.
Icing your neck may help and sleeping with your head and neck straight may help. You are still very early in your recovery so you should be patient. |
Well I can nap during the day and I won't get those symptoms. Its only at night when I'm falling asleep that my forehead feels swollen and my hands start feeling numb, weak, and swollen. I get really scared. That usually follows a feeling of before you wanna throw up (saliva secretion). My doctor just said to give it time. I felt like he didn't even care even though I told him they were new symptoms.
Also is it normal after a concussion to get dizzy while washing hair? Will it eventually go back to normal? |
There are a lot of variables that need to be considered. Do you nap on your bed ? Do you nap in a different position/posture ? How long after eating do you nap vs go to sleep ? What activities do you do before a nap vs going to sleep ?
How do you wash your hair ? With your head over a sink ? Tipped back under the shower ? Do you vigorously scrub/move your head ? I had to learn to hold my head still while shampooing and when I towel dry my hair. I have to be even more careful when the hairstylist washes my hair. A shampoo sink presents its own issues. |
