Left Sided weakness, tinging, zinging
I am 43 years old Female.
2 years ago I woke up at 4am with severe pain in my left side arm/shoulder. Weakness/numbness. I had my husband get me some Aleve and I got relief after about 30 minutes. It was a Sunday and felt off the rest of the day but better the next day. A few weeks later I was woke up with the severe pain again and I was unable to stand on my left leg because of weakness. I did got to the doctor and she recommended a MRI. And then another MRI a few days later with contrast. I seen a neurologist a week later and he said the MRI with contrast ONLY showed a spot on the back right lower side of my brain. He basically told me I much of injured myself in the past. By them I was pretty much back to normal. My neurologic exam was normal. I haven't had the severe pain again, but I do have left sided issues that come and go. Feeling of weakness, tingling and asleep...all on the left side. Today I work up with the whole left side of my body feeling off.....left side of my face, shoulder, arm and leg. It is hard to explain but I keep feeling like it is part asleep. I can walk OK. Over the last couple week while I was just sitting watching TV int the evening. I would have zinging go down my left leg. Then it is gone. I other issue that may or may not be related is I have had 3 times over the last few months where it felt like something just moved through my body. I was driving once.....it only lasted about 10 seconds but it was a weird feeling. Any suggestions or opinions are appreciated. Thank you. Melissa |

Hi Melissa
The spot on the right side of your brain might be a sign of a small stroke. The asymmetry (right side brain, left side physical issues) is consistent with this. Your neurologist should be able to talk with you about this. If it turns out that a small stroke is a possibility then getting your GP to check you out for cardiovascular disease risk factors (high blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol levels, etc) would be a good idea. |
You might also want to read on our MS forum about testing and symptoms.

There are other things that can cause "spots" on the brain, besides stroke and MS...
A common antibiotic: Flagyl or its cousin Tindamax Parasite infections (pork tapeworm) Lyme disease or toxoplasmosis--this usually shows multiple lesions other viral or bacterial infections that get to the brain these are just some of the factors. Interpreting MRIs may be quite subjective...so try getting another professional opinion. Make sure your B12 is at 400pg/ml minimum too, as it is used to remyelinate neurons. |
