Concussion Intuition

Hey All,

I posted a little bit ago about minor head bumps, and greatly appreciated the responses given to me. I'm still a little anxious about my head, and wanted to post with some additional information to see if anyone's opinion about my potential risk for concussions changes. I didn't withhold this information consciously during my first post - I just didn't really think to include it at all at the time.

The two recognizable concussions I've had in my life both gave me very mild symptoms, but were pretty significant impacts. I've read on this forum multiple times that it's not the force of the impact that dictates the severity of a concussion, but rather the number and intensity of symptoms someone experiences.

My first concussion was from a skateboarding accident - I fell off a ramp and slammed my head on asphalt. I didn't lose consciousness, felt "sleepy" and couldn't get up, but had no lasting symptoms other than a headache that subsided midway through the following day.

My second concussion came from a car accident. I lost consciousness for maybe 15-20 minutes, had a headache the next day, and was fine other than anxiety i felt after having a conversation with my mom about head injuries.

I have, like many on here, bumped my head a few times since these two concussions. No bump has been very forceful, and i never had any impacts within a short time period of hitting my head that would have put me at risk for second impact syndrome or anything like that.

However, I do have a very strange phenomenon occur when I receive some bumps to the front or side of my head: I experience no immediate symptoms, but all of a sudden I have what feels like an intuition or a self-fulfilling prophecy that assures me I will wake up with a headache the following morning, or experience one in a few hours.

Again, I never experience any immediate symptoms, just this weird feeling I'll get a headache in a few hours or the following day. Inevitably, I wake up with a mild tension headache and loads of anxiety about any potential effects for the next couple of weeks.

I was wondering if anyone else has this weird feeling overcome them when hitting their head. It seems a little like what could be some trauma from my car accident/conversation with my mom (she didn't hit me or anything, just her life story scares me and the conversation, at that time, felt way too real).

Sorry for the lengthy post, but it's a question that has been hanging over my head and I figured some background and context would help everyone a little more. I appreciate any advice and thank you all for the insightful information spread throughout the forum.

Cheers!

Google "self fulfilling prophecy." Sounds like your anxiety is getting to you.

When you think about it though, if you have an elbow or a knee that's been injured previously and you knock it again, it's natural for us to immediately think... "oh no, it's going to swell up again really badly" or something to that effect. Maybe next morning it is a bit swollen or bruised. To me there's nothing strange about a fleeting thought after an injury such as yours.

Squash,

I experience the same thing...if I do something that makes my head tweak I just know it will set things off in a few hours.

For me I believe it to be anxiety related and I have started to look at the evidence. Did anything bad happen from the headache, did I become incapacitated? I now do my best to ignore the anticipation of the unknown.....that is not easy at all but I am starting to see some results.

I recently figured I had an anxiety problem when I saw a truck go over a speed bump rougher than I would have and it gave me a headache.... I was standing in a parking lot watching!
