MRI reslts & TOS
 

I need help understanding what my MRI results mean and how they managed to come to a questionable TOS diagnosis...any input is appreciated i understand only the pain from the C6 nerve.

C5/C6 small right disc posterolateral/lateral disc protrusion which is narrowing the exit foreman and touching the right side C6 nerve.
The disc protrusion is indenting the thecal sac but cord not compressed.

There is loss of cervical lordosis

There is a haemangioma within the T1 vertabrae, no other marrow abnormality identified

Conclusion: Right C6 nerve compression due to C5-C6 disc protrusion

Treatment: Pain management and physio

Diagnosis: ?Thoratic Outlet Syndrome

Hmm, usually if right sided sx and right side has something in c spine touching the right side C6 nerve...that seems to show a possible clear cause..

Did they offer PT or any treatment for the c6 issue?

Do you have left side TOS type sx also?
It is possible to have both a c spine issues and TOS..

If you list out your symptoms and if R/L sided maybe we can help more.
And do you have any cause that you know of, or possible factors that would point to TOS?

Hi, thanks I have been put on 1800mg gabapentin for pain plus codeine & paracetamol then PT, however i have already been referred again to the spinal surgery team...im only 26 :(

It is right sided mainly. My shoulders do round forward and when i do the military pose i feel a horrible pain around mt ribs and pain below the scalupula in my thoratic spine, i therefore slump to avoid this pain.

I have a tingling pins & needles in my right arm and all my fingers. I have mild sensory loss in my right arm/hand and they needed to rule out thrombosis as i have intermittant cold & blueish coloured hand symptoms.

The reason i have been sent back to surgery team for 2nd opinion is i am right handed and have a desk job with this problem i cannot sit at a computer all day so would mean a 10 year career lost. sorry i have got carried away moaning .

oh the most annoying symptom is the burning pain from the c6 nerve absolute agony :(

When you see the surgical team, make sure you understand what they are proposing, if they suggest surgery , it may be just a fairly minor thing to clean out the disk tissue and free up the nerve area.
I'm not sure what that would be called in medical terms tho..

Much different than a fusion or more invasive surgery.

Sorry about your troubles and we do understand the age issue. Actually most people with TOS are very young which is horrible. I'm not saying it's better to get this when you're old but...

The computer issue is going to become a huge problem for the entire population, it already is. I looked up some statistics the other day and 1 in 4 people in their 20s have computer injuries.

My TOS was not caused by the computer but it certainly aggravates it and as of right now I am not able to work.

Just had a mini breakdown about this the other day but I'm better now. Bad days and good days...

Aww thanks for your replies I'm so glad I'm not alone I have been brushed off with psychological issues regarding these pains for 2 years now n whilst it's nice to get answers the increase in pain is awful right now xx

Psychological issues...best answer when a dr doesn't know what's going on and can't admit he doesn't know.

I had an unnecessary wrist surgery when all this started just because we had to cut something to see if the pain goes away. I would have much preferred a simple " I don't know what's wrong with you" answer so I could move on and find someone who knows.

Fibro seems to be another answer when they don't know what's going on. So you either have fibro or you're crazy.

Haha so true I've had all of cfs, fibro, joint hypermobility, depression and anxiety diagnosis if only if they sent me for a simple scan n hospital check up in the first instance I've been led to believe everything's in my head...well now I have proof x
