what are the effects of high blood pressure?
Can someone please explain to me, why concussion sufferers have to be careful with high blood pressure? What may happen inside the brain?
And also, is there a problem with standing up quickly? |
The only PCS specific issue with high blood pressure is head aches and sometimes, other PCS symptoms. Otherwise, high blood pressure would have the same risks as it has for non-PCS people. As a general rule, high blood pressure can cause strokes in people with weak blood vessels or very high blood pressure.

I've been wondering if having a TBI/PCS can actually lead to high blood pressure? ever since my husbands accident back in January, he's had higher than normal blood pressure. this was never a problem before his accident, but now is. Correlation?

Hello Sassyfrass,
The only problem I had with blood pressure was at the time of the injury when my pulse rate dropped and my blood pressure skyrocketed. The blood pressure went down in a matter of hours. In the ER they wouldn't release me home until it went down. A lot would depend on the extent of the head injury and if certain areas of the brain were injured. e.g. I *think* but am not 100% sure that the Hypothalamus is involved in regulation of blood pressure. Someone else might know if that's correct or not. Anxiety can also cause a person's blood pressure to rise temporarily. Anxiety and agitation. |
Thanks Lara, I guess we'll see what the Dr. says at his physical in 2 weeks.
