Successful Long Term Result of TOS Surgery
Sarah 21 had TOS surgery in the Summer of 2011 (under the armpit). She joined neurotalk on Dec. 18,2011, last visited on Dec. 19, 2011, and then disappeared. In that short period she published 7 posts. Sarah has given me permission to post a recent private message from her (see below).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was sent to Dr. Raphael Bueno out of Brigham and Women's. I am happy with the results. I have some occasional symptoms on the side I was operated on but I barely felt like my arm was part of my body before surgery and was having chest pain a lot. MAJOR improvement in quality of life. I will say I lost sensation or it was decreased in my arm for awhile but after awhile it's close to normal now. A small price to pay in my opinion. Dr. Bueno can be a bit of a character but so far in life I've found the doctors with less social skills and elegant speech, the more surgical skills they have so I don't factor that into my opinions anymore for surgeons. I may need to have my other side done and if/when I do I would go back to him without a doubt. He's extremely thorough. Sarah |

Sarah had her surgery in the summer of 2011. She sent me her private message on March 9, 2015.
Just after her surgery in 2011 she reported on this site that she "had my left first rib resection, my lung did collapse, and I was in the hospital for 4 days. The next six weeks were long, hard, and painful and due to my chronic joint pain I usually have a high tolerance. After those first few weeks thing have really turned around, all of my symptoms, including the severe chest pain that I was having many times a day, have all subsided." I will post the links to her detailed description of her surgery in a later post. |
