possible concussion?

Hello,

It was my birthday this weekend and I had a little bit too much to drink, I hit myself in the head with a table border while dancing salsa, my roommates told me I was bleeding and threw up after. I do not remember a single thing. I don't have a single memory after around 1 am. My friends told me I fell down around 2:30 am when we got home and decided to salsa in the living room. I was hungover with a headache yesterday but I though it was normal. today I still have a headache and I couldn't sleep at all last night, I kept waking up like every 30-45 min. I am having a little trouble concentrating but not sure if its because I didn't sleep well or because of my head injury. I am not sure if I blacked out because of the alcohol or the head injury, I have had times when i don't remember parts of the night while drinking in previous occasions, but is normally like little moments and it has never been one when I don't remember anything, like getting in a taxi to go home.
Should I go and see a doctor? or if I keep taking pain medicine it will just go away? this is a picture of the injury, my roommate says it will heal itself.

any advise would be great. not sure if I'm just being paranoid.

sandrarh,

Welcome to NeuroTalk. Your inebriation makes any recommendation difficult. The cut on your head does not help with a concussion diagnosis. The fact you threw up could be a concussion or it could be from the alcohol.

It does not sound like a trip to the ER is needed but an Urgent Care Clinic visit might be worthwhile.

In the mean time, you need to stop drinking. Alcohol and concussions do not mix. You may be able to resume drinking in a month or two but there is a likelihood you will be more sensitive to the effects of alcohol. Most doctors will say to stay away from alcohol after a head injury.

Thank you Mark, I did not know about not drinking about a head injury, I will make sure that I do not drink for a while. I actually just asked a nurse and she told me that unless I have blurry vision, strong headache or vomit I shouldn't worry much about it and just rest for a couple days and not overwork my brain, which makes sense since I am having a hard time getting one single task done.
Thanks for the advice, if my headache does not go away in a couple of days I will get a doctors appointment or go to an Urgent Care Clinic.

I agree. If you feel nauseous or throw up again, you should be seen. But, your first episode of throwing up could have been linked to the alcohol so it is hard to tell.

If your ongoing problem is just head aches and difficulty focusing, that is just common concussion symptoms. It may take a few weeks to recover. 85% recover within 6 weeks. Many of the rest end up with prolonged PCS like many members here.

Welcome sandrarh. :Wave-Hello:

Sounds like you should see a doctor.

Hi Sandrarh,

Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.

I would suggest seeing a doctor.
I believe it's better to err on the side of caution with any head injuries.

Don't drink alcohol and if you're taking pain killers, take something like paracetamol rather than aspirin or ibuprofen.
Don't drive a car.

You have described...

visible trauma to head,

alcohol intoxication,

headache,

vomiting,

a short term memory loss
