simvastatin
Hi all I hope you are all as well as can be, Well after a Recent visit to doc I was told my cholesterol was too high and I have been prescribed simvastatin.
I asked if it was OK to take along with my many meds I take already and seemingly it is but after a Google and recent article in the newspaper I'm getting conflicting advice on statins and as I feel I'm on enough meds to sink a ship for Crps and High blood pressure I would much prefer to lower my cholesterol in a more natural way and get conflicting advice on this again (sigh) Does anyone have high cholesterol/BP as well as Crps that could give me some advice as to what helps you. Thanks G |
This is my story with statins. First I was put on Zocor. I was only on it for 1 month and I could not pick up anything, my arms were so weak and painful. Called my doc she said immediately stop taking it. A month goes by and my doc says we need to revisit the cholesterol so she put me on Lipitor (another statin). If you watch the commercial at the end it says "If you experience muscle pain or weakness immediately stop taking it because it can cause a rare and serious side effect". Well I was one of those people. I now have permanent muscle damage in my left arm (shoulder to elbow). There is a swab test called a CYP450 that I think everyone should do before taking a statin. Wish I would have known about it beforehand.
There are many alternatives. I take no flush Niacin and Chia seeds. The chia seeds are great. It lowered my cholesterol over 30 points. Hubby & I put it on everything. Ive known over 5 people who told me their muscles hurt. I asked if they were on a statin they all said yes. Once they stopped their pain went away. My opinion statins are a poison. Do some research first. Even a low dose of simvastatin can effect people especially over a long period of time. Take care Geordie |

Statins are coming to an end as a therapy.... http://www.express.co.uk/life-style/...-nerve-disease The new non-statin drugs are almost here now. However, according to Dr. Seneff we need cholesterol! In the media just last month was a recommendation that diet no longer is an issue with cholesterol management. http://www.cnn.com/2015/02/19/health...ry-guidelines/ |
Do you have any medical heart related problems in your close family history?
How high is high according to dr? Some drs see 200 and automatically want to put you on statins. They don't seem to change a trend very quickly.. It is your choice. I cut out nearly all junk food and added in olive oil, real foods vs imitation/over processed , read labels to avoid MSG and other unwanted additives... Last time mine was checked the total chol was 350...and I'm still around LOL My grandmother lived to 96 with chol 350 range. no heart problems at all. There is also a syndrome called metabolic syndrome, you may come across that in your reading. |
Thankyou for your helpfull replys, firstly I Googled chia seeds and no flush niacin after reading about them I went to my local Holland And Barrett and bought the same I thought it has to be worth a try and at 2 for 1 prices it only cost me £10.00 for 120 no flush and 2 packs of chia seeds.
I am making an appointment to see my doc and tell them I don't want to continue on the statins for now so thankyou for a great post Shelbie. Very interesting reading mrsD thankyou for taking the time to post links. Jo Mar frow what I know of my father's side of family I don't think there. Is any heart disease but can't be certain as my father died aged 30 with a brain tumour and I was only 2 and over the years I've not had a lot of contact with them. On my Mother's side my mother has angina she is 78 my gran died at 93 I think one other of my aunts has angina too but no heart attacks that I know off. I eat a varied diet I think and good home cooking very little processed foods. I think cholesterol must be scored different here in the UK as the doc says mine was 7.4 with not enough good and too much bad.I am also on medication for High blood pressure. Heartening to hear your grandmother lived to 96 with what I take it must be a high cholesterol. I think my biggest downfall is smoking which I am trying to reduce but fi ding it very difficult I have started taken a fresh lemon hot water honey and apple cider drink every morning after reading about its benefits. Thanks all and take care G |
