Dental Work ???
 

Haven't had any dental procedures other than cleanings since the RSD and was recently told I need a root canal.
Should I take any special precautions or is it nothing to worry about??

Well not knowing where you have RSD at could make a difference.

A little of my history with RSD & Dental work:
Origianlly RSD started in both feet in 03 but has now spread to my ankles also. It has also showed signs in my hands. Now I have twice beenthru a series of 6 SGB's on each side since Jan 06 when the hands started to become involved. The SGB's have kept it pushed back in my hands & it has gotten no worse. I do have less sensation & have fuzziness & some slight burning & redness in them at this time. I have been thru 1 1/2 series of 6 LSB's in the summer & fall of 04. I stopped them due to back problems (I was sobbing while having them done due to the damage & pain in my back) & since have had major back surgery with a level 3 fusion from L1 thru L4 November of 05 (with no spread due to this surgery due to them using Ketamine while performing surgery). I am just now starting a series of 6 LSB's on each side at this time. I have had 2 done on the right side.

During that time I had multiple root canals with NO problems. Due to having Sjogren's Syndrome also & not being able to produce saliva without the help of Evoxac (medication) when I lost all prescription coverage, I have since had every tooth in my head pulled & now have a full set of dentures on top & bottom. (This is hard for me to admit, not having any teeth at my age, because I ALWAYS went to the dentist & took care of my teeth) BUT you can NOT have a healthy mouth when you can not produce saliva. I was without prescription coverage for over 9 months & the company that makes Evoxac does NOT have a program to help you pay for your scripts by either giving you free or low cost medication. I was able to obtain every other one of the drugs I take for RSD & allergies except for Evoxac. That is all it took was 9 to 10 months without it & I lost all my teeth due to no saliva in my mouth to keep my mouth healthy. And believe me....I had to constantly fight off Thrush Mouth (yeast infection). And that is NO fun.

Well sorry if this grossed you out, but wanted to outline my dealings with dental work.

It can be harmful to you also not to have dental work done. If that tooth starts to rot it can produce a bacteria that can kill you with an infection to your heart. That is a proven fact. Tell your dentist that you have RSD & then go online & investigate what, if anything, that a dentist can do for you profilatically.

Well anyway, I did not have any complications from having any dental work done from root canals to having extractions. I will take that back, I did have a couple of 'dry sockets' from extractions, but that can happen to anyone. Besides I smoked before I should have *LOL* so my own fault totally.

My RSD started in hands and now in both feet too.
Just wasn't sure if dental work fell under the same risks of spread as surgeries....can't handle anymore spread.

I am not saying there isn't any risk. I do think there maybe some people out there that have had problems with dental work. I am just saying, that for me I didn't have any problems. Wait & see what others have to say before making a decision.

Just remember it can be bad for you to do nothing also.
