Ads Google - opt out link

https://support.google.com/ads/answer/2662922?hl=en

I wish I'd found this before.

It wouldn't work for me because I clear cache and cookies when I close browser. in the browser settings..

[ Do you delete or clear your browser’s cache and cookies? If you’ve cleared your cookies after opting out you may have undone your opt out for that browser.

What to do: Opt out of interest-based ads again on your browser. Or, install an extension like Protect My Choices.]

OH pain!

That's what has been happening. I clear everything every day.

I have these ads following me around all the time. I'll look at things on ebay and stores and the next thing they're following me around.

I'll check on the Protect my choices.

Thanks so much!

Lara,
I find the ads funny. Currently every one I get is for Melbourne City FCs next game on the 28th as the owner also owns Manchester City FC, my Club, and I now follow all the Subsidiaries. Think I'll pop on a flight just to catch the game - nothing like Targeted Advertising, eh?

Dave.

Ghostery or ad block browser ad ons are good.
I use ghostery and don't have those things showing up any more - it is annoying and I didn't like it a bit ..felt invasive/spying LOL

Nice thing is you can try some top rated ones to see if you like it and then easy remove if not to your liking.. then try another til you find a good one for you.

Also the no tracking/privacy search engines are good too.

Adblock Plus (open source freeware; https://adblockplus.org/) is also worth investigating.

It sits in the background and tells me that it is currently blocking ads in the link that Lara provided (https://support.google.com/ads/answer/2662922?hl=en) as well as those in the newspaper sites that I visit.

EnglishDave 03-22-2015 07:17 PM

I can see how that would be annoying. With my eyes I come here, and look up specific info which comes up daily - sport/tv related, about 10 mins total. All my shopping online is done by my youngest.
Still, it is funny they are trying to sell me match tickets when I'm 11k miles away :D

Dave.

Dave, I get followed around by shoes and handbags and shabby chic furniture. I need a break! ;)

Google tracks everything and profiles us.

Thanks everyone. I will check it all out when I get back.

I changed my computer a little while back so everything is very different on this one from my last setup.

I keep a current back up copy of my Firefox & Thunderbird profiles (settings, bookmarks etc), makes it so much easier when having to start over with a new OS install or new computer..

All saved emails , passwords everything can be placed in the right folder so it will look & act just like before.

Usually each season I update the profile copy on my flash drive..

kiwi33 03-22-2015 09:02 PM

I do the same as Jo*mar.

For me Friday morning is back-up time - my Thunderbird, Firefox and Chrome profiles get saved to my two external HDs. Critical stuff gets backed-up on the fly.

Apart from that (external HDs have been known to fail...), I use CrashPlan (there are others) as cloud back-up; http://www.code42.com/crashplan/ .

For a few dollars a month it sits in the background, automatically backing everything up.
